3 Reasons to go see MONSTERS UNIVERSITY #MonstersU

June 22, 2013 By Emily 12 Comments

School may be out for the summer, but after 12 years away from the big screen the Monsters from MONSTERS INC are headed back to school in this summer’s must see family movie MONSTERS UNIVERSITY.

About MONSTERS UNIVERSITY:

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

The movie opens up with an elementary aged Mike Wazowski getting his first taste of what a Scarer does at Monsters INC.  Flashing forward several years, we follow Mike to MU as he meets James p. Sullivan for the first time.

Unlike in MONSTERS INC the two are far from best friends.  Mike had dedicated himself to his studies and is committed to the Scare Program, while Sully thinks his family name entitles him to be in the program.  They become rivals of sorts, until an unexpected event gets them kicked out of the Scarer Program.

Mike is unwilling to give up and he and Sully team up with an unlikely group of monsters from Oozma Kappa Fraternity to compete in the scare games and earn a spot back in the Scarer Program.  The adventures that ensue are seriously funny, fun, and will keep you guessing until the very end!

3 Reasons You Must See Monsters University

Fun For the Whole Family
This movie is age appropriate for everyone in your family.  Jokes for adults and kids, but nothing inappropriate.  If you are worried about the younger children in your family, don’t be!  My four year old loved every part of this movie and wasn’t scared at all.  Just like in the first Monsters movie, Disney did a great job making sure the language and tone were always kept friendly and fun.

The Movies Messages
There are so many messages your children could take away from this movie.

  • The importance of telling the truth.
  • Hard work pays off in the end.
  • You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
  • You’ll never know if you you don’t try.
  • Teamwork pays off.
  • You can’t always do everything on your own, friends are important.

The New Characters
Mike and Sully will always be loved and classic MONSTERS characters, but the new characters in this movie are so much fun!  I found Professor Knight to be a hoot! – Maybe it’s because we share the same last name!

My son thought Art was just too funny!

In the words of my four year old son “People should go see Monsters “Univesiby” because it makes you laugh.”

I’ve been trying to get to the theater for the past few days to bring my 5-year old. I know she’ll enjoy it. I saw it in LA at the world premiere. It was a fun movie.
