I think it is really all about teaching your children and talking to them. And that is good parenting! 🙂 I will check out your costume. Hope you all have a great Halloween, and thanks for voicing another opinion. 🙂

I think my costume is Ok for around the children. It does cover everything and has a long skirt (Voluptuous Vampire, will be posting on my blog tomorrow if you care to see).

It's true, I didn't mean to say it should be about dressing inappropriate though it is the one day of year that I think it is perfectly OK and I let them choose their own costumes once they are able to. (I also do not allow bikinis for my daughter and won't until she is old enough to get a job and buy her own!)

My Daughter tends to like the appropriate costumes – she has also been a Cat, Winnie the Pooh, and a witch. My boys like the violent ones, as long as they don't act violently while wearing it.

Agree to disagree. I don't know many Eden Fantasy costumes that are appropriate to wear around children, but I also don't know you or your costume, so I can't really form an opinion.

I think my post was more about age appropriate costuming, and not saying that a witch or a vampire or even a grim reaper being not okay. I think those are fine.

Celebrating the Dead doesn't have to be about dressing inappropriate, which is what Halloween has become.

Punk Witch or Vampire or Princess, it is all fine, as long as it is age appropriate, and not "sexy" or excessively "violent". I think Spider Fairy sounds cute and creative.

I don't think you need to add violence to costumes like excessive blood and knives or guns. That isn't really celebrating the dead either, that is to me more promoting violence.

My fluffy bear is going to have just as your spider fairy, but the best part is both of those costumes are age appropriate.

I don't find that Elmo costume to be offensive or even sexy at all, and I would trick or treat in it – if I actually liked it.

My son wanted a Chucky costume, and I would have got him one if I had found it on time, but I didn't so instead he is going as an undead biker. My other son has a skeletal mask that has an attached pump to make it appear as though blood is dripping down his face.

My Daughter picked out a super cute Princess costume, girly, frilly, and the type of costume that any prudish parent would love. If I had chosen for her I would have chosen something like a Punk Witch or Vampire – My two year old is going as a Spider Fairy. A black and purple tutu style costume with wings.

And for myself, I'll be going as a sexy vampire, courtesy of Eden Fantasys.

My take? Appropriate clothing is for every other day of the year. Halloween is about CELEBRATING THE DEAD, not dressing up like a fluffy puppy.

I really question a lot of judgement out there. It seems parents tend to be more of a "friend" to their children these days then the "authority" figure they should be. I also agree with the above poster – I am so against my little girls wearing bikini's…I see no reason why they would need to wear something like that.
Ha, so anyway, I will get off my soapbox too! Thank you for following my blog ~ I am definitely following yours too!

The girl scout costumes aren't cool either. And I totally agree with the bikini thing. Why when there are so many cute 1 -piece bathing suits. Thanks for the support all!
🙂

I see no reason to put children (babies!) in disturbing costumes, and I disgusts me how halloween has become an excuse for girls to dress skanky… Especially young girls. Though maybe I'm just a prude because I disagree with putting little girls in bikinis too. I think girls are becoming sexualized WAY too young!

There are two, actually. one that is a brownie (brown vest) and one that is a junior (green sash). brownies are 1-3rd or 4th grade depending on the group. So probably 10 years old at most, but typically more like 6-8. I just was so disgusted that anyone would ever think about making that into a sexy halloween costume.
