A Year From Now You Will Wish You Started Today.
With all the workouts you can do at home, with all the resources at our fingertips, what are you waiting for? Forget waiting til the New Year. Beginning a workout routine takes a few weeks to become habit. 21 days to be exact. The first 21 days after the New Year, everyone and their mother is at the gym hoping to make this the year they change their lives. That means that the gym will be crowded, you will be waiting for equipment, and if you are anything like me, more people in the gym = more people to watch you as you learn. Personally I hate that.
If you start right now – TODAY – you won’t have those lines. The gyms are empty save for the people who have already made it part of their lifestyle. The 21 days it will take you to form a good habit can be done now prior to the mass resolution-ers hitting the gym. By the time they get there you will already know what to do, and what works for you. You can get in, get out, and GET HEALTHY!
Use The Time to Clear Your Brain
As a busy single parenting mom (while the hubs is deployed), and a million and twelve things to do on my plate, working out allows me 30-90 minutes of ME TIME. Not only does working out help reduce stress, but it can also help you be better organized. Our brains need time to process things, and what better time then a scheduled daily workout that is all about you.
Working Out Helps You to Feel Good About Yourself
Not only physically as your body changes from your workouts but mentally as well. While you are waiting and working hard to see results, you mind gets them right away. You will reduce your stress levels which will in turn allow you to be kinder to yourself. If nothing else, you know everyday you have a set amount of time that is just for you and your body WILL thank you.
Your Children Are Watching You

Mine especially. He is only 2, but boy oh boy is he paying attention even when I think he isn’t. The other day I asked him to do something, and he said, “No Lazy!” SAY WHAT! Setting an example starts right now. Don’t wait for some silly day to start your journey.
Life in TOO Short
Seriously, just when you think you have a handle on this life thing, it comes and bites you in the a$$. Why are we waiting to get healthy? What good does waiting do? Every doctor’s check up or visit they always ask about exercise. There is a reason for that! Healthy habits help you live longer and fight disease. Don’t you want to live a longer and healthier life? I know I do. If not for me then for my son.
Get a Better Nights Sleep
Sleep is a precious commodity around here. Any parent will tell you, once you have a child you aren’t going to sleep for 18 years. I notice personally when I am not working out and eating right, my insomnia flairs crazy. With insomnia comes weight gain. With weight gain comes health issues. With health issues comes lower life expectancy. You see my point here? Working out has been proven to help you sleep. Start today, and help your body fall asleep quicker and make the best use of the limited hours parents have to sleep!

More Endurance for Your Days
The holidays are one of the busiest times of the year. By fitting in a workout to your daily routine you will find that you have more endurance during your days. This will help you be more effective, and ultimately less stressed. Remember, the more you workout, the better your endurance will be.

So true! I keep putting it off because of my kids when I should be doing it for them and myself! You have inspired me.

Now *is* the perfect time! You can practice your echoing duck calls in my gym these days, it’s so empty! Wait, ducks don’t make echoes, do they?

If I didn’t exercise, there’s no way I would have made it through grad school. One kid nursing at the start; the 2nd at the end. I would have been too exhausted, grumpy and probably lacking the necessary brain power. Your point about getting the time back – your endurance really does go up. Great job with this post, dear friend Emily!

It took me a long time to stop waiting for the perfect time. It usually never came. I enjoyed reading this post.

I am proud to say that I’ve lost 25lbs this year! I didn’t wait till tomorrow, or the new year, or… AND I signed up for a 6 week challenge at my gym (a weight loss challenge similar to biggest loser based on percentages) during the holidays. Total motivation to NOT overeat right there! Thanks for the words of encouragement and the acknowledgement that others feel the same as me. Being fit not only makes me feel good about myself, it also makes me feel good as a mother.

Such a great list. I really like how you said if not for you, than for my son. That is so true. I know I will be a better mom, wife, and friend when I work on taking care of me!

So perfectly said. NOW is the time…for all of us! Our children are watching…what a powerful statement and I try to make that well known on my blog too. So happy that you inspired me to join the FitFluential family!

Hi, Emily! I love your point about our children watching– though I am not a mother, this is a great reminder that practicing healthy habits benefits not only ourselves, but those around us. So true.
