I have a new blogging love. Her name is Windows Live Writer, and I have a feeling we will be in love for a very very long time.
It has truly been a whirlwind romance. I met her at Blissdom 2012 this past February, although it seems we have actually been in each other’s company for a long time and not even known it.
If I had to describe our relationship in a quick sentence or two I would say:
Windows Live Writer allows you to create stunning blog posts in minutes, with photos, videos, maps, and more. Then publish them to any of your favorite blog service providers such as WordPress, Blogger, and TypePad.
But our relationship deserves more than a couple of sentences, let me begin to explain why we have the most perfect relationship. From the first time I wrote on her sleek personalize page, and published directly to my blog page, I knew it was love.
- Finally a way to organize my pictures in EXACTLY the places I want them.
- Finally I can watermark my pictures in one place without uploading my pictures to another site and re-saving them, then uploading them to my blog.
- Finally no more fear of losing my post when my internet connection isn’t always the best.
Windows Live Writer is a place where I can come and let my blogging mojo flow, edit, create, and when I am finally satisfied with the result all I have to do is publish or post as a draft to my blog.
This is also great because if I am limited on my internet connectivity then I could still do my posts, save them in Windows Live Writer, and upload them all directly to my blog when I have connection.
When I first started dating Windows Live Writer she made the experience of writing off my blog as personal as possible. My fonts, my Headings, even my blog background appear in my writing space.
Hyperlinking is super smart, not more pasting my links, just copy the link you want to hyperlink in your post, and then highlight the selected text, and click hyperlink. Just like magic the link is already there!
The whole relationship is effortless and magical.
I mentioned above that I had actually been keeping her company and not even known it. You see Windows Live Writer was already on my HP Envy! My guess is she is on your computer too, but you can also download the program here.
If you need anymore convincing on starting your own love affair with Windows Live Writer, check out this tutorial on adding pictures, videos, maps, and other plugins you may need directly into your post.
Thankfully Windows Live Writer isn’t a jealous mistress. Which is great for me as I am also enjoying using SkyDrive and Windows Movie Maker on a regular basis as well. All amazing tools any blogger should start a relationship with today!
You can find more great tutorials on Windows Live Writer on YouTube. I also recommend following Windows on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with the latest news and products available for you!
Disclosure: I am not being compensated in ANY WAY for this post. I just had to share my new love with the whole world!

Any tool that makes my life easier is a gift! So many cool features! Love how it helps to organize so seamlessly.
Thanks for all the great info!
I’ll have to check. I haven’t heard of Windows Live Writer.
Oh my I have fallen in love with her since Blissdom as well! I’m workin all the Window products on my blog.
I LOVE live writer
As usual, I’m using a tool and not taking advantage of all of its awesome features. I honestly have no plugins. Thank you so much for this great post. So glad I watched that video. I HEART WLW and Windows.
This is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this with us; I’m always looking for ways to stream line my blogging. I’ve been using Word for my posts and copying them over to my blog when I have a moment. Based on what you shared, I’m going to check out Windows Live Writer and see how it can help me manage my 3 blogs and featured blogs.
Thanks!!
Kimberly
Emily, this post is Awesome!!! I just got a new laptop (PC) after years of having only Macs. I had no idea about Windows Live Writer until I read your post and watched the youtube clip! I’m so excited to use it for my blogging now!
Thanks for the info!
Great review. I discovered it a few weeks ago too and like having the ability to write offline and set it all up and then publish a draft to my blog.
I wish my ancient computer had Live Writer.
I used to use Live Writer but ran into some glitches with it.
I’ve used it for EVAH and love it!
I’m going to have to try this out, thanks!
While I don’t miss pc’s this is the one thing I do miss since switching to Apple computers. Luckilly they have something similar but it just doesn’t have it all 🙂
I have got to check this out, I have heard great reviews about it!
Love technology! Especially when it makes a blogger’s life easier thanks for sharing the info !
I love Live Writer!!
I’ve heard this often mentioned but I have never tried it I feel now I should!
yay! glad you found something you like!
I’ve heard of it, but never used it. Now I’m intrigued.
I think I have Windows Live Writer on my computer. After reading your post, I am going to have to check it out. I love to blog and if there is something that might be better than using WordPress, I am interested.
Sounds pretty nifty!
I am certainly taking some time out to download this (if I don’t have it already, which I also might) and learn more about it. I’m excited.
Very cool. I wonder if there is a Mac equivalent
I use it sometimes too and it really is great.
I guess I need to check it out!
watermarking pictures is so important that’s a really great feature
Interesting. I think Louise from MomStart uses this too because I think I remember her talking about it before. I really need to check it out more.
I used Winows Live Writer for over 2 years — LOVED it! Got a Mac now, and it’s not compatible, of course. It’s the only thing I miss from going to my mac from a PC.
Thank you so much for the reminder, I forgot to add it to my new computer! I loved using this while on a plane with no internet connection, it was wonderful! Plus the amount of fonts are also very useful. There are too many aspects that I love about WLW! Have fun in NYC!
I keep hearing people talk about LiveWriter – I’m going to finally check it out!
I never heard of this. I wish my PC came with a trial or something!
I’ve heard a lot of bloggers talk about using live writer but didn’t really know what the benefits were – thanks for sharing!
I tried it out this morning and it is kinda neat. I like how it loads your background behind the section you are typing in.
Thanks for the gift! I’ve never used it, and I’m going to check it out now.
I’ve never heard of it before. I may just have to check it out!
I have heard so many good things about this. I need to try it.
I’ve started using it since my last comment. In love!
I have never used this! Thanks for sharing!
Live Writer may be discontinued soon!! Scott Lovegrove has posted an online petition to “Save Windows Live Writer”. [http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/dontkillwlw] Please sign it and spread the word!
