The Kia Soul | Fun and Functional @Kia #Kia2EVO

July 18, 2012 By Emily 21 Comments

What is better than a road trip with one of your blogging and real life besties?  How about a road trip in a brand new gorgeous, chic, and cool Kia Soul?

Last week much to my enjoyment, Lolo from Crazy about My Baybah and I packed away a weekend worth of belongings and cute clothes into a 2012 Kia Soul and hit the road to Park City, Utah to attend the Evolution of Women in Social Media Conference.

While the trunk may have been a bit to small for a family of 4, for the two of us it worked just fine.  You can see that two suitcases, and a few carry-on bags filled up the whole trunk.

We packed a cooler in the back seat and used the extra back seat room to hold our purses leaving the front with plenty of leg room.

Then with the push of a button we were off with a gorgeous Las Vegas sunrise to send us on our way!

Las Vegas, Nevada to Park City, Utah is 426 miles away and according to Google Maps is 6 hours 56 mins driving time.

The Kia Soul has a 12.7 gallon fuel tank and gets about 26/36 MGP City/HWY.  WE fueled up 2 times on the way to EVO and then twice again on the way home.  Both Lolo and I tend to be safe with it comes to fuel, and never had more than a 9 gallons to fill up.

The Kia Soul was very fun to drive.  I really enjoyed the extra features that have been added to it like the infinity speakers, navigation system, and push button engine.

I think this car is perfect for a young high school, college, or post college grad.  I would also recommend it for anyone without kids.

I did find the space in the car impractical for a family.  As a family car, I can say my stroller would fill up the entire trunk space, and would make it so I would have to put groceries in the back seat, but if you didn’t have kids (who tend to make any space more cluttered), this would be a great car.  It is a really fun alternative to your everyday boring four door car!

I do also have to give a shout out to the fabulous windshield wipers.  On our way home from Park City while driving through the mountains, we encountered several severe downpours.  This picture doesn’t do the rain justice, it was really coming down.  It does however show how great the wipers are.

The Kia Soul has a great mix of functional and fun elements that make the car a blast to drive.  Kia also offers a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty that is standard with every Kia.  While this car may not be a perfect fit for my growing family, I can see my mother or sister loving every inch of this car!

Disclosure: I was able to drive the Kia Soul to Utah for the purpose of this review.  Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Looks like a great car for a single person or a couple just starting out. Glad it had no problems going through the mountains either!

Looks like an amazing car! I’m curious to know how it’ll do with dogs. We have three dogs and we like to travel with them and I’m trying to figure out the best car for dog owners. I’ll be in the market for a new car next year. There are so many options out there and I have my own set of criteria. It’ll be an interesting search.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’ll take a longer look at the KIA Soul.

We have a 2011 Kia Soul White Tiger Special Edition. We love it… however. When we picked it out we had just myself, my husband and our teenage son. It was great. Then our granddaughter came along. We have had her more often than not since she was born. You are dead on with the statement you made about the stroller. Once we put the stroller in the back, there really is no room for anything else. Rear facing car seat? HA! We chose our car seat very carefully to make sure it was the safest, most compact one we could find. I still must move the front passenger seat up quite far when we have her with us. Sometimes I babysit another infant… 2 rear facing car seats?? What a joke! My Hubby can steer with his teeth! Not kidding!
I am in total agreement that the Soul is great for a single person or a couple. Perhaps even a family that has 1 child who no longer needs car seats and strollers. Any more than that, look for something larger.
The style, ride, features, gas mileage… couldn’t be better!!! We have found that there are blindspots when driving & trying to back up that I wish we had noticed before we got it.
All in all, I am totally in love with our Soul… if only I could stretch it out and make it a little big bigger!

We’re in the market for a new vehicle and have been thinking about the Kia Sol. It looks like a fantastic SUV. I love the color you had and while you mentioned the trunk would be small for a family of four (good to know since that it us!) it does look like you got a lot of stuff in there. I love the push button start too. Very cool!

We are currently test driving the Kia Rio. Not so sure I like the Sol I’m not big on the boxy cars.

I love this car and would never have thought it would be so roomy! I’m looking to downgrade from my minivan now that my kids are getting older and really want to check this out.

Curious, what stroller do you have that fits into the back of your Kia Soul?

Hi Emily, I was writing something about the Kia Soul and searching about it I found your article which I loved it. I took one of the pictures you have here and mentioned it with all credits on my article (http://www.autopten.com/carforum/sbbt107-cheap-new-2013-car-crossover-suv-under-15000-kia-soul.html), if you don’t mind. If you there is a problem for using your picture, please let me know to take it off. Thanks!

We bought Kia Soul 6 month ago. And we love it. We have 5 year old and 6 almost 6 month old. We have a booster seat and Graco 4rever care seat and it fits perfectly.
We had to sell our old stroller because it took all the space in our trunk but we found a nice stroller which can be fully recline for newborns, infant car seat can be attached and it has many other nice things.
