4th of July Fun and a Happy 4th Blogiversary!

Happy 4th of July to everyone! We certainly had lots to celebrate here!

My blog turned FOUR on July 2nd.

My first post was Squishy’s 1 month baby update and my second was a post about our first 4th of July Family Celebration.  I love looking back on these posts.  How funny to read my excitement over nursing in public for the first time – I have vivid memories of that. I was so worried someone would say something nasty to me.  Thankfully we did just fine, and four years later NIP isn’t even a worry in my mind as I am still EBFing our second son who is almost 7 months old!  Yay for mini breastfeeding victories!

4th of July Flashback – Squishy at 4 weeks old

I can’t believe my blog is already four years old.  There was no way four years ago I had any idea my blog would have grown into the business it has become.  I can’t wait to see what the next four years will bring!

Another 4th anniversary is one of friendship.  Four years ago I met Alex (who is now a guest reviewer on Our Knight Life) and four years later we have a wonderful friendship that I am so grateful for and I know I couldn’t have gotten though these last four years without.  She at the time owned a cloth diaper service and opened my eyes to cloth diapering something I hadn’t even considered doing.  I still remember the day they came to set our service up – I was wearing Squishy in the SleepyWrap while getting the house cleaned up.  Babywearing, cloth diapering, and general parenting commiseration/celebrations led to a great friendship!

Equally as important our babies who were 4 weeks and 6 weeks old the day we met, are now best friends and have spent every 4th of July together since!  It is so heartwarming watching their friendship grow.  Every time they see each other they get so excited and run into hugs.  Every time! So cute! We didn’t take a picture of them the day, but here is then and now.

As for our 4th of July this year?  We had a lot of fun!

Baby D had a first yesterday – He had his first pool time play date.  I think he may just be my little water baby.  He LOVED being in the water!

That tongue hanging out just kills me!

K also had a great time in the pool.  We are still learning to swim – which reminds me I really need to get him back into lessons.  As long as he can touch the ground he is a fish, but the moment he goes any deeper he isn’t quite sure he likes it.  Hopefully with a few more months of swim lessons we can get him swimming and comfortable in the water.

After a morning of swimming in the 113 degree heat, we all took naps (yep, mommy too!). Once we were all rested up and in our red, white, and blue we headed over to our friend’s home for BBQ and fireworks.  K got to try his first sparkler, and they enjoyed being mini “Fire Marshalls” using their water squirters to drench the already used fireworks before they were disposed of.

I’m so bummed that the brother’s picture is blurry – I had to share it anyway as I still love it!

In true four year old fashion, they didn’t have much of an attention span for the fireworks and before long just started playing with other things.  Baby D wasn’t impressed with the heat or the fireworks! He passed out as it was way past his bedtime!  Once we headed back inside the boys treated us to a mini concert!  I look at K in that picture and swear I am looking at my teenager!

We sure did miss Daddy this 4th of July.  We were happily able to talk to him on our drive home that night.  The 4th of July is his favorite holiday and I know it was hard for him to miss this.  We love you Daddy!
