I can honestly say that even though we are only a few days into this week, it get’s an F!
F is for: Fire on Mt. Charleston.
We seriously look like a scene from a post apocalyptic movie. This fire has burned over 16,000 acres, claimed on building structure and turned towards more, and is still only 10% contained. It has been burning since July 1st. We live just down the Mountain, and while we aren’t concerned at this point the fire will spread this far, our air quality is very poor and extremely smoky. As of this evening it has started to rain ash and even inside our home is beginning to smell like smoke.
Ashes as seen at our home. The bottom right is our view of the mountains which you can no longer see due to the smoke.
F is for: The filters I will be buying to replace ours tomorrow.
F is for: The five times a day my son is taking his inhaler.
F is for: The firefighters who are working around the clock to get this fire under control. They are in our thoughts and prayers!
F is for: Foot. As in mine is broken. Well, actually my toe. I knocked a heavy bottom glass off our counter, and the impact broke my toe in a few places, and smashed my nail causing a laceration that needed 4 stitches. I did it right in front of my son, but somehow managed to keep him from seeing the blood gushing or saying a bad word that would surly have been repeated in summer camp.
F is for: Friends New and Old. On Saturday (technically last week) I was also super fortunate to finally meet some friends that I have made online and been watching their families grow for 4 years. Both of these adorable moms were “BUMP” friends I made during my first pregnancy. Becca owns Jumping Jax Designs and I have used gorgeous designs for so much including the Monster Truck Themed Party K had this year! I love her and her company. Shannon owns Little Roos Boutique and if I ever have a girls I will probably buy everything she makes! Her headbands are darling! I had such a nice lunch with these ladies and really hope one day to get all our children together! (We all have 4 year old boys! They each have adorable little girls as well whom I am sure Baby D will flirt with!)
Continuing the friends theme I am lucky to have a great friend who gave up the rest of her afternoon to come to my house with her daughter and watch both boys so I could get it taken care of. I feel so fortunate that I have found and made friends locally who really go out of there way to be there for me when I need them.
F is for: Figuring out an emergency plan. I realized when I hurt myself that I didn’t have a set plan of action for what to do if I got hurt while my husband is deployed. I know what I would do if the boys needed care, but I never thought about me. It’s time to start coming up with a plan.
FINALLY…
F is for: Funny Boys.
You might want to look closely at this picture, because looks can be deceiving!

Ha! That pic is tricky!!! So glad you had some time out with your bloggy friends, new ones at that! I can’t believe what you did to your toe. GIRL!!!
It has been a bad year for fires. I hope they get that one out soon. Ouch on the foot, hope it feels better quickly!
Your poor foot! I can relate with needing to use the inhaler. We haven’t had a fire near us, but my asthma has been horrible this year!
Sorry about your toe (I’m not sure if I could have refrained from saying a “bad” word). Love your pics and the last one is AWEsome! 🙂
So scary about the fires. I love Las Vegas and the one thing you can count on is seeing the mountains and even those are gone from view now. Hope you guys stay safe.
Oh man, I am so sorry about your foot.
The fire is just devastating! Today I can smell the smoke and my head is killing me, yet we’re all the way across town from the mountain. I’m sorry you got hurt and hope the time in the boot flies by!
Thank you Marcie – I am so happy to see that they are finally getting some control – although they are now worried about the winds again. Hell of a job they have!!
owwwww to the toe!!! And how scary about the fire. Our mountain had a bad fire almost 10 years ago and we were all evacuated. It was so scary. Love the bottom photo of the boys! Too cute
Sending prayers for the fire and the air quality. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad week but I am happy that you have some great friends and those adorable boys to help you through it. Hoping your week gets 3000 times better! 🙂
Thank you April! I appreciate that!
the pictures of the fire make me so sad. I remember going snowboarding up on the mountain so many times
Hopefully it won’t impact the resort too badly. I think for now it is safe.
Wow! I hope they get the fire contained soon. I also hope your toe heals quickly.

That fire looks crazy. We had a bunch of really scary wildfires last year here in Utah when it was so dry. Sorry about your toe, it sounds painful!
I remember that – I think we had some of the smoke drift our way!
I love how “K” is hiding out under that saucer! I nearly missed it.
He is a super goof – he brother thinks he is the funniest thing ever!
Oh my goodness, you have had one F of a week! 🙂
Lol – true that!
Wow definitely and F of a week, but so glad you have the friends and funny boy.
