Hey everyone!! I’m making a conscious effort to bring back my fitness Friday posts.
I feel more accountable when I do these, and lately I’ve been slacking off on the fitness front. I have a lot of weight to lose – close to 60 lbs! So each week I will update my progress as well as try to pick a topic to discuss.
What’s Going On This Week:
As you may or may not know I am on my third round of Whole30. When I first started it I did so to see if the inflammation and allergy issues I was dealing with would clear up as a result. Plus I needed to cut our dairy due to my son’s issues. (I was and still am breastfeeding). I lost a good deal of weight and was working out regularly. I started a second whole30, but ended up stopping at 15 days. I was struggling with mild depression/anxiety, my son’s FPIES diagnosis, and skipping meals. After that followed several months of bad food choices and not working out. As a result I put on the weight I lost and was pretty miserable. So I decided to go back to eating Paleo and jump start with a third Whole30. I’m 18 days in, and while I’m doing great with the eating, I’m still making excuses to not workout. I realized I was only giving half the effort I needed to be giving and as a result was only cheating myself. So… I’m going to work really hard to get back to making workouts a priority. There are no valid excuses left now that Baby D is finally sleeping at night!
This week’s Topic: Supplements
Once I have the food and the movement in progress the third key to my health and weight loss is Supplements. Currently I’m taking supplements to boost my breastmilk supply. When we got the failure to thrive diagnosis we had to introduce a special prescription only formula for calorie intake for Baby D. As a result my son went from breastfeeding constantly (as he can’t have any food at all until his hospital food challenge) to refusing in favor of the bottle. My supply tanked! However, he still needs the breastmilk in addition to the formula so I began the tedious often torturous process of boosting my supply (but that’s a whole different post…) If the natural supplements don’t work I’ve been prescribed Reglan, but I’m hoping to boost naturally. Obviously as I am breastfeeding I have can’t take a lot of the supplements I do when I’m not. I also can’t do protein shakes like I like doing for quick breakfasts on the go because of my son’s healthy issues. He is for sure triggered by dairy, eggs, and probably rice as well as many FPIES kids are.
So what am I taking?
- Breast milk supplements (Go Lacta, Fenugreek, and More Milk Plus)
- Chia
- Prenatal + DHA (I stopped this one during my Whole30 because I couldn’t find one that was compliant)
- Probiotics
- Magnesium (For anxiety and migraines)
I’m actually planning on heading to Whole Foods this weekend because they are having a 3 day sale on ALL SUPPLEMENTS! The Whole Body Sale means 25% off all supplements.
I’m looking for a whole30 compliant prenatal. I used to take Rainbow Light Prenatals and I know Whole Foods carries those as well as a whole line of pregnancy/new mom supplements. They are probably as close to compliant as I’m going to get! Plus I need more Chia and probiotics, and I think I’m also going to pick up some vitamins and kid supplements for my son. He takes probiotics and a multivitamin, but during the flu/cold season we also do elderberry supplements.
I love their homeopathy section! I could pretty much spend all day looking in that aisle! Some moms like shoes – I like natural remedies! Ha!!
The Plan for Next Week:
I really want to get signed back up at the YMCA, but money is a bit tight right now so in the mean time I plan on getting on my elliptical at least 3 times next week PLUS I want to get back to my 5k training. I usually do this by walking my son to school in the morning (1.5 miles each way) and then doing the couch25K on my way back with baby in the stroller.
Happy Friday!
What are your goals this week?
What supplements do you take daily?

Sounds like you have a great plan! I wish I could take more supplements but with nursing, it’s hard. The few I could/should take – I can’t seem to make myself because I hate swallowing pills. I LOVE that homeopathy section at Whole Foods! I could LIVE there haha. Oh and we’re wanting to sign up at our gym too – but money is tight. Boo!

I took a pre-natal vitamin while expecting but that’s it. Hubby takes supplements all of the time, daily!
