I love Kiboomu.  But more importantly, my son loves Kiboomu.  We love listening to music, and dancing all silly.  Kiboomu very seriously has hundreds upon hundreds of songs for your child to learn from, enjoy, and be a child.

Kiboomu boasts that “Kids Grow Smart with Music”, and thanks to their many songs, apps, and printables, I think that is most certainly true.

Just check out how much recognition Kiboomu’s Children’s Apps have received!

  • “What’s Hot” and “New & Noteworthy” on iTunes
  • Showcased on Apps For Children With Special Needs Show
  • iLounge’s Top 100 Apps for 2010
  • Winner of the Creative Child Toys Award 2010

Recently I saw on Twitter, that Kiboomu had a relaxing MP3 album called Yoga Baby & Me, I was excited to check it out.

"Kiboomu" "Kidzup" "Family and Life in Las Vegas" "Music" "Yoga" "Relaxation"

You may or may not have figured out by now, I have a sleeping problem.  Or rather a lack of sleeping problem.  No matter how hard I try, I really struggle to turn my brain off at night, and just give in to my exhaustion.  It has nothing to do with being tired.  I am pretty much tired all the time, it is more of a winding down kinda thing.

I was given something I could take at night, but the truth is, I don’t like how groggy it makes me in the AM, and I worry that I won’t be able to hear the baby if he needs me.

The first time I listened to it, I fell asleep within 20 mins!  (Although to be fair, make sure you make a trip to the powder room before you listen to this relaxing music or the water may get to you!)

Yoga Baby & Me is great for so many different things!

  • Relaxation at the end of day.
  • Quiet Reading/Play time with you child.
  • And of course, teaching your child Yoga, or practicing next to your child.

I really really dig this MP3 album.  Anything that helps me gain even just a moment of peace and quiet deserves an EXTRA SQUISHABLE rating! (9/10)

Squishy has Bieber Fever {Video} https://ourknightlife.com/2011/02/your-child-likes-justin-bieber.html https://ourknightlife.com/2011/02/your-child-likes-justin-bieber.html#comments Mon, 28 Feb 2011 20:50:15 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=2985 Well, I guess we can add Justin Bieber to the list of musical likes for Squishy.  Now it may be hard to replace his beloved Rock-A-Bye Your Bear from the Wiggles, Squish sure does get down to the Biebs. It all starts from those first few “OoohhOOoWooohhoOOO”s But really it’s the “Baby Baby Baby Ooooh” that seems to have a special place in his musical heart.

Maybe we should stop letting him watch Glee…

Juno Baby ~ The Day the Music Stopped (Review) https://ourknightlife.com/2011/01/juno-baby-day-music-stopped-review.html https://ourknightlife.com/2011/01/juno-baby-day-music-stopped-review.html#comments Mon, 03 Jan 2011 10:30:00 +0000 http://familylifeinlv.com/?p=464

Squish and I are thrilled to review the DVD The Day the Music Stopped by Juno Baby.

Juno Baby was created by the imaginative Belinda Takahashi, Ph. D. and has a new line of products out for your growing toddler and preschooler called Juno Jr.

The idea for Juno Baby sprouted when we were expecting our first child. After searching for products that would be engaging, musical and fun, we quickly learned that our options were few and far between. Since necessity is the mother of invention, Juno Baby was born. Once we started, it soon became clear that our new life’s goal was to create and share original, beautiful, thoughtful, inspirational and, above all, fun music for children.” Belinda Takahasi

Juno

My favorite part about Juno Baby is actually what sets it apart from others. The music is all performed by a live orchestra especially for the program. You can really tell the level of love that went into creating each story.

The Day the Music Stopped is a great story intended to instill a love of music, while teaching your child about working together with their friends. After the Shush Machine is accidentally activated, Juno, her brother Rai Rai, and her friends begin a journey to bring music and life back to the town.

Rai Rai was a baby after my own Squishy’s heart. They are both big fans of Vroom Vrooms and Choo-Choos. During the train segment my Squish choo-choo’ed all the way through. The music is really quite catchy and very entertaining.

My favorite part was the Harmony Pond and the Harmonizing Frogs! Adorable, Fun, and easy on my ears!

The Day the Music Stopped also has a Let’s Interact! feature. Squish especially loved this. He danced around and around.

There are other bonus features that get your preschool involved and learning as well!

You can find Juno Baby their website, twitter, and facebook page. And if you act now, you can Get $40 of Juno online store credit for just $20! Hurry, offer expires soon!

I also really love how much Juno Baby gives back to the community. In December they ran a promotion for each time you shared their music (twitter, facebook and more) they donated a DVD to a child in need!

Thanks to all the wonderful aspects of the DVD and the company, Juno Baby gets a Squishy Rating of EXTRA SQUISHABLE!! A treat for any child!

Thank you US Family Guide and Juno Baby for letting us review this DVD! I foresee Squish requesting this video on many days to come!

Disclosure: I received the products listed above from Juno in exchange for this review. No monetary compensation was received by me. This review is 100% my opinion, and may differ from yours.

I apologize for lack of Squish pictures in this review – my camera is missing… probably squirreled away in the Squish Stash somewhere…

Kiboomu ~ Review & Giveaway 2 Albums 4 WINNERS!! https://ourknightlife.com/2010/12/kiboomu-review-giveaway-2-albums-4.html https://ourknightlife.com/2010/12/kiboomu-review-giveaway-2-albums-4.html#comments Fri, 03 Dec 2010 16:55:00 +0000 http://familylifeinlv.com/?p=421
I am so excited to be working with Kiboomu again!  Finding fun music for my son is something I look for actively.  So when Kiboomu allowed me to review not one, but TWO more MP3 Albums I was stoked!
First Up:
Numbers and Letters
What I love about this album is how fun these songs can make letters and numbers.  I know those are both something I talk about daily with Squish.  But this album gives me a fun creative way to sing and teach at the same time!!
Our absolute favorite on this album is Add the Animals – Such a fun song!  Squish LOVES the animal noises, and I love that we are doing math without even thinking about it!
We also really like the ABC Bones!  Simple, cheery and fun!
Next and just in time for the Holiday season:
100 Christmas Songs!
Yes, that is right, 3 albums worth of Kid’s Christmas music in 1 simple download!
It is filled with classic Christmas Carols and ones that we had not heard before.  I really enjoyed it, and my Squishy loves it.
And with 100 songs – you aren’t going to get tired of this album before Christmas comes!  It is a great album to introduce your child to the great music of the Holiday Season!!
Singing along side Wendy (Co-President of Kiboomu) is her daughter and all the original songs were co-written by her and her partner Fatso!
Not only are we big fans of Kiboomu’s music, but I am personally a huge fan of their philanthropy work.  A percentage of all album sales goes toward feeding hungry children!
Kiboomu continues to earn an VERY SQUISHABLE rating from the Squish-man!
The Giveaway
Kiboomu is generously giving 4 Family and Life in Las Vegas readers their very own digital download of these super fun Kid’s Albums.  2 Numbers and Letters winners and 2 100 Christmas Songs winners!!  Since these are digital downloads you will get them before the holiday season is over!

The next giveaway for Family and Life in Las Vegas readers in our super fun Walking in a Toddler Wonderland event is a fantastic Holiday CD brought to you by Susie Tallman and Friends and Rock Me Baby Records.

Susie is not only a wonderful and classically trained singer, but she is also a mother. She has 3 children Tessa (4), Lance and Trent (1). She like many mothers’ enjoys singing with her children and reminds us of the many important rewards and benefits music gives to your child.

· Music and singing allows an opportunity to bond with children; giving you a repertoire of songs and musical activities that you and your baby, toddler and/or young child can share. Entire families can participate and that music can become the soundtrack of your child’s life.

· Music participation encourages creativity and coordination, while listening requires attention and analysis. With music, children begin to learn language, counting, reading, and memorization. Engaging in musical movement – rocking, bouncing, dancing and otherwise moving to the music – gets children moving.

· Music helps build self-esteem and self confidence. Music and singing is a non-competitive activity that can be done alone or in groups and in which everyone can participate. This gives children an activity that can grow their self-esteem and self confidence. – Susie Tallman

For Walking in a Toddler Wonderland, what better music giveaway than A Child’s Christmas – Holiday Songs and Carols.

This Holiday CD has over 40 songs and offers 74 minutes of holiday music for your child. Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and Willy the Wombat are just a few of the many songs found on this album!

Like all of her CDs Susie Tallman uses many voices and produces her songs with upbeat styles. This Holiday CD will quickly become a Holiday favorite for your child!

A few weeks ago, at the Abc Kids Expo here in Las Vegas – the premier juvenile convention comprised of some of the industries most innovative products, I had the privilege of meeting Susie Tallman. Susie is the founder of Rock Me Baby Records. In 1999, Susie created Rock Me Baby Records as a way to combine her love of music and children.

“Rock Me Baby Records carves out a new path in the market of music for small children,” says Tallman. “The albums provide parents with a contemporary way to introduce the beauty and tradition of nursery rhymes and lullabies.” – From the Rock Me Baby Records Webpage

I had to stop at her booth because as I have mentioned numerous times, my little Squish LOVES music. He has sung himself to sleep since he was born, he started dancing before he could crawl, and his favorite toys are his drum kit and his guitar.

After talking for a while about children’s music and how valuable it is to the development of creativity and imagination in children. Susie gave me a copy of Classical Nursery Rhymes to take home. I was pretty excited – the album has 37 songs on it, and so many nursery rhymes I grew up with. In addition to this album, Susie also has lullabies, and other fabulous music albums for children.

Align Center

The Review:

I loved this CD. My son loved this CD. It is sweet, silly, animated, and of course classic. The album has so many different tempos and voices on it, it really kept both Squish and me involved until the very end. Often times I found myself laughing at how goofy we both could be while singing along with the music.

I have to admit, it would be hard for me to find fault in good music like this made for children. I believe in exposing children to music at an early age. We have a variety of music in our home for Squish to listen to, and interact with.

But what I really loved about this CD is the many different voices on the album kept Squishy entertained the whole way through. The change in tempos in a few of the songs was really fun. The use of different accents for songs like this Old Man put a new spin on an old classic.

In addition to being fun, the record is also educational, utilizing counting skills, repetition, and international exposures.

Susie really tapped into what children were going to love when she recorded this album. I will for sure be adding Rock Me Baby Records on our list of must have music. On the squishy rating scale we give Classic Nursery Rhymes a Very Squishable!

If we choose your blog, we will link back to your post the following week.

Our highlighted blogs this week are:

This week’s topic is : Games

One of the things I love to do with Squishy is finger play. I learned some from Library Story time, and others I found online. Everyone knows the itsy Bitsy spider, but there is a whole world out there of finger play. The more I do them, the more Squish starts to participate.

Here are some of our favorites. I got them from this online site – Preschool Rainbow. Print them out – learn them by heart, and enjoy with your Toddler!

Ten Fingers

A fingerplay

I have ten fingers hold up both hands, fingers spread

And they all belong to me, point to self

I can make them do things-

Would you like to see?

I can shut them up tight make fists

I can open them wide open hands

I can put them together place palms together

I can make them all hide put hands behind back

I can make them jump high hands over head

I can make them jump low touch floor

I can fold them up quietly fold hands in lap

And hold them just so.

Five Fat Peas

A counting fingerplay especially

useful in the spring and summer.

Five fat peas in a pea pod pressed

children hold hand in a fist

One grew, two grew, so did all the rest.

put thumb and fingers up one by one

They grew and grew

raise hand in the air very slowly

And did not stop,

Until one day

The pod went POP!

children clap hands together

We also love to wrestle on the floor. I know – not the most educational game, but it sure is a lot of fun. When I play with him down on the floor, we focus on learning names for parts of the body, like “Are you walking on mama’s legs?” or “Are you trying to stand on your head with your hands behind your back?” Lots of fun!!

We also love love love Peekaboo in our home. And my favorite is when Squishy hides behind something without covering his eyes, then moves it away – and wants you to say PEEKABOO! As if you didn’t see him already! Silly Squishy!

What games do you like to play with your toddler?

Link Up Suggestions:

1. We ask that you follow all three hosts. That way you can keep up to date on future Toddler Talks.
2. Please grab the Toddler Talk Button and display it in your post or on your blog.

Kiboomu ~ Children’s Music Review and Giveaway https://ourknightlife.com/2010/10/kiboomu-childrens-music-review-and.html https://ourknightlife.com/2010/10/kiboomu-childrens-music-review-and.html#comments Mon, 11 Oct 2010 03:04:00 +0000 http://familylifeinlv.com/?p=314 “KIDS GROW SMART WITH MUSIC”

Recently I had the opportunity to review a down loadable music album from Kiboomu.

Kiboomu is company formed by two women, Sherry Segal & Wendy Wiseman, who were both leaders in Canada’s children’s and education industry. Wendy and Sandy brought together their knowledge of music, education, publishing, and entertainment their companies Turmont Publishing and Kidzup Music were thriving.

In December of 2009 after selling their other two companies, they launched Kiboomu. Kiboomu focuses on digital edu-tainment. Combining their knowledge of music and education the company has many education children’s products they offer digitally which allows them to not only be at the top of the rising digital trend, but also help to reduce consumer waste. Educational, Fun, and Eco-Friendly all spell a recipe for success. Add to that talent, and a desire to give back to their community, and you have one amazing company.

I received a digital copy of the album, The Top 30 Preschool Songs, and Squish LOVES it. Both Wendy and her daughter sing on the album, along with several other children, which I personally believe is one of the major appeals to my son. He claps along with the songs, stamps his foot, and turns in circles.

I like how the album focuses on skills a preschooler should be working on. Like numbers, letters, gross motor skills, and repetition. The songs are a mix of classic songs, and others I was unfamiliar with. My personal favorite song is “The Circle song”. I love that I can sit with Squish and work go through the motions with him clapping, stomping, shouting, and counting together. Squishy’s favorite song is most likely “If You Are Happy and You Know It.” No matter what he is doing, when he hears that song he has to stop and clap.

“I would teach the children music, physics and philosophy, but the most important is music, for in the patterns of the arts are the keys to all learning.” – Plato

Teach. Sing. Learn. Give Back. That’s what Kiboomu is all about. It’s about creating music and apps that not only entertain children, but educate as well. It’s about encouraging children to be creative through song and play. But, most of all, it’s about filling a child’s day with laughter while expanding their growing minds in a fun and inviting way. If we can accomplish that, our mission is complete!

A portion of all sales goes toward feeding kids through the Kiboomu Foundation.Kiboomu Website.

In addition to music Kiboomu also has apps you can download onto your iphone. These are sure to keep any toddler busy!!

I found this album to be fun, creative, entertaining, and definitely Squishy Approved. On the Squishy Rating Scale we give this a Super Squishable!!

Family and Life in Las Vegas

Welcome to the sixth week of Toddler Talk Thursday! Where Family and Life in Las Vegas, Crazy about my Baybah, and My Life as a Sippy Cup Mom talk all things Toddler!

Toddler Talk Thursday was created as a place for moms and dads of toddlers to come together over a weekly topic and share ideas, go-to toys, or products. It is a great way to meet other bloggers of toddlers. Each week the topic will be different; we invite you to link up, share your weekly Toddler Talk!!

Each week the hosts will travel around to each blog that links up, and pick an idea, story, or picture they think was a great example of that weeks topic. In order to qualify for this you need to blog about this week’s topic, and follow the hosts. Comments letting us know you are participating are always great too. If we choose your blog, we will link back to your post the following week.

Our highlighted blogs this week are:

The Adventures of Ryan

Funny Little Peanut

Mom-a-logues

The Adventures of Ryan because he just looks so cute sitting on that Sit n Spin watching his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! 😉

Funny Little Peanut because we love the pictures that Mel shared of Emma and her favorite characters!

Mom-a-logues because we love that her 2 year old told her “Mommy I heart Jonas.”

This week’s topic is: Music

Dancing to Run DMC

Squish loves music. Since he was a little itty bitty Squishapillar he has been singing himself to sleep. He kind of just hums a little song until he passes out. As he has gotten older, it really does sound like singing mixed in with some jabbering. He varies his pitches. So cute! He also loves to dance. If you ask him to dance he will bop his head up and down, and do mini squats. He has also started to throw his hands around front to back sometimes. It is really a treat to watch him dance. He can be playing along, and then all of the sudden, some song will come on that he deems dance-able, and he just starts getting down!

As far as the types of music Squish seems to like, it is pretty varied. He loves to listen to kids singing, especially if he can see them too. He likes the nursery rhyme songs I sing to him, over and over. We have two songs that I can sing and it will usually help him to settle down when he is upset. He seems to really get down to the 80s music channel, which thrills his Auntie Kim to no end. And he also really likes the music with the Jimmy Dean Sausage commercial, where the planets are all orbiting around. Every time it comes on TV he stops playing and kind of sways all!!

For bedtime, we have gotten into the habit of listening to the classical channel. Although recently our cable provider just added this soothing classical ditty to the information channel, and he loves it! We call it “The Soothing Sounds of Cox Cable Song”. It is really funny to see what he gets down to.

To keep things fresh we listen to a wide variety of music, and I love going to the library and renting different CDs to listen to for a while. It always keeps things new, and keeps this mama from going crazy listening to the same song over and over and over again…

About the only music we aren’t really fond of in this house is the blaring music that repeats out of some of his toys! I swear even on the soft setting, that music is just jarring. Recently I duct taped the speakers so as to mute the noise just a bit. It seems to help quite a lot. But seriously, when they go off 3 hours after Squish has finished playing with them it just scares the crapola out of me!! I’m all for a fun musical toy, I just wish some of them had softer, sweeter music…

Next week’s topic will be: Toddler Travel Tips
