Whether or not your child is old enough to go see the new Avengers movie – Avengers: Age of Ultron, they are likely already swept up in Marvel superhero fever.

This fever is spreading across the country in pandemic proportions and can be diagnosed with this symptom check list:

1. Desire to buy, wear, and be all things Superhero all day every day.

2. Refusal to be called by their first names – instead insisting on being:

  • Saluted and called Captain America,
  • Fist bumped and answering only to Hulk,
  • Growing their hair to match the long locks of Thor,
  • An increased desire to tinker and take apart all machines to see how they work while simultaneously pretending to answer phone calls with “Stark here.”

3. Refusing to sleep by simply stating – superheroes don’t have time to sleep – they have to be ready to save the world at all times

If your child is exhibiting any or all of these symptoms please proceed to the nearest printer – and give them these coloring sheets ASAP!

To print these pictures simply right click and save them to your computer!

Once you got them printed all you have to do is assemble your avengers! This should be easily done by simply raising your voice and yelling:

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

A Geeky Girl’s Guide: Avengers: Age Of Ultron Movie Review https://ourknightlife.com/2015/04/a-geeky-girls-guide-avengers-age-of-ultron-movie-review.html https://ourknightlife.com/2015/04/a-geeky-girls-guide-avengers-age-of-ultron-movie-review.html#comments Fri, 01 May 2015 05:52:27 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=19707 The second installment of the Avengers film franchise hit theaters everywhere today, and it’s the biggest and most anticipated film coming out of Marvel Studios so far. The largest question being, can Marvel do it again? The answer? Oh yes, Marvel most certainly can. Avengers: Age of Ultron just seems to further the point that Marvel Studios can’t seem to do any wrong.

Avengers, Marvel, Avenger: Age of Ultron Movie Review

All of your favorite Avengers are back and hit the ground running in the very first scene. Captain America leads his fellow teammates, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, against the villainous creation, Ultron. The Avengers are forced to face one of their biggest challenges yet: their deepest, darkest fears. The only question remaining is whether or not they can face them in time to stop Ultron from destroying the world.

Joss Whedon once again takes the driver’s seat for this momentous blockbuster proving for a second time just why legions of fans idolize his every action. His love of comics and Marvel are proven again as Avengers: Age of Ultron becomes another affectionate love letter. Whedon creates a well-balanced film that not only showcases some amazing visuals and action sequences, but a more dramatic and grittier side that just adds to the development of the characters. This is especially true with the Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton have yet to be blessed with their own standalone movies. Their roles as supporting characters have kept much of their background nonexistent in past films. Whedon opens up their stories enough to allow some larger insight into each’s characterization, allowing the viewer to get to know the two a little better. The best part? Whedon does this and balances it just enough that it does not take away from the main focus of the film. It isn’t a joke when critics say that Whedon has a knack with working with large ensemble casts.

I would love to talk about Mr. Evans, Mr. Hemsworth, and Mr. Downey Jr., but they honestly have their roles down and should give nothing short of amazing performances after as many films that they each have under their individual belts. No, the ones to watch this time around are Scarlet Johansson and Jeremy Renner and also Mark Ruffalo. In Mr. Ruffalo’s case, this becomes the first time that an actor has played Bruce Banner twice for a movie, and he solidifies the reason why he should continue to do more.  Two other characters, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, are played by well-known, versatile actors, Arron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. Both are exceptional additions to the cast as well as intriguing characters.

Elizabeth Olsen – Scarlet Witch and Arron Taylor-Johnson – Quicksilver

As amazing as the film was, I will not lie and say that I didn’t have issues. These are very tiny issues in comparison and really are due to my love of the comic books. I had a difficult time separating the world of the comics from a couple of story lines that the movie offered. Honestly, it was small, and by no means, a reason to scare other comic book fans like myself. I just ask that you treat the film world as you would any of the multiple comic book universes. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a part of the Marvel Studios universe and is very much its own world.

Should you take your children to Avengers: Age of Ultron?

As this is a family friendly blog, we do need to answer the question of what age child this movie would be appropriate for.  The action, violence, and language run pretty much in line with the previous Avengers film. If you feel that your child shouldn’t watch the first one, best not to take them to this. It consists of the same types, but just a lot more of it in this film. It is rated PG-13.

If you and your family are assembling shields, hammers, and hulk fists at this very moment, because you just can’t stand the excitement? Then get ready to wave them in the air with pride and joy. Avengers: Age of Ultron is the summer movie blockbuster you just can’t miss out on.

Cobie Smulders: Mom, Comedian, and Kick Butt Action Star! | #TheAvengersEvent https://ourknightlife.com/2012/05/cobie-smulders-mom-comedian-and-kick-butt-action-star.html https://ourknightlife.com/2012/05/cobie-smulders-mom-comedian-and-kick-butt-action-star.html#comments Fri, 04 May 2012 23:57:14 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=10148

If I hadn’t already been a fan of Cobie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother after having the amazing opportunity to sit down with her last week I would have become a fan.  Cobie Smulders walked into the interview in the most stunning orange vintage inspired dress a few hours prior to the Tribeca Film Festival closing night screening of Marvel’s The Avengers, and immediately apologized for her attire.  Thankfully we were all dressed for the event, so hopefully she didn’t feel too out of place.

What I loved about listening to Cobie Smulders as she answered everyone’s questions was how extremely down to earth she was. At one point she even apologized to us for talking so much, making mention to how she has spent the last several days at home being a mom.

COBIE SMULDERS: That was the longest answer, I’m sorry. [LAUGHTER]  We’re out of time, I just kept talking.  I, I haven’t talked for like three days, I’ve only been like a mom at home.  And so it’s like blah-blah-blah so excuse me.  I’m sorry, ask me a question.

We all laughed, any mom knows how that can be!  Eventually we got down to the nitty gritty and discussed how she transitioned from her most well known role as the comedic Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother to a kick butt action star S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Maria Hill!

"Cobie Smulders" "S.H.I.E.D. Agent Maria Hill" "Marvel's The Avengers"

Tell us about your character Maria Hill.

COBIE SMULDERS: Maria Hill, works at S.H.I.E.L.D.  She’s a very high ranking officer and she sort of works directly, under Nick Fury.  There’s lots of debates about how powerful she is, because me and Nick Fury get into it a little bit.

She sort of commands the Hellcarrier and she’s a bit of a task master.  When I was, when I got this role, I started reading all the comic books and also all the blogs, and all the- what anyone had to say about the character.  I was trying to, trying to learn as much as I, uh, as much as I could.  And she’s like described as like the biggest b**** in the universe.  But I hate that so much, because like women if you’re in a powerful position, you get labeled a b****.  But if a man is in that position, he’s just got to do his job.

Yeah so it was kind of cool to approach a role with that kind of stigma behind it, and just kind of own it in a sense. Just be like this especially with Maria Hill in the way that she works with Nick Fury.  Nick Fury follows his gut instincts a lot … He’s sort of like the Avengers initiative is sort of what this whole movie is about.  And it’s about bringing all of these super heroes together, and it’s an emergency basis only.  Maria Hill sees that as a huge threat.  I mean, even to have Hulk on the Hellcarrier alone is, is a bad idea, puts humans lives at risk.

So she sort of butts head with him, but in kind of a great way.  Like she brings him back down to Earth, but they have this awesome arc of their relationship, and by the end she sort of sees why he’s breaking the S.H.I.E.L.D.

Since it’s an action movie, did you have a lot of stunts you had to do, what was the craziest?

COBIE SMULDERS: At the beginning this film opens with this huge car chase sequence and,  I want to say like the hardest thing to do was probably that, actually.  Not beecause I’d never done driving, but like driving under extraordinary circumstances.  Where it felt like, and the- this is so girlie.  But it felt like sort of dance choreography where you’re like driving and they’re like and then a car hits you from the sides.  Then you move your body this way and then you jam into it, into second gear.

And then you take your gun and hit the windshield and you shoot out the windshield and then you run out of bullets so you throw the gun down. And then you peel the- and you’re like, what?  And they’re like go.

I know I turn, so it’s somewhere, so it was sort of hard to physicalize that and turn my brain off.  And you just had to do it and get it in your body a few times and then it was okay.  So that was really the most challenging because it was also like me being driven, you know, being pulled by another car.

And I’m going five miles an hour, and I’m supposed to be just like cruising, I mean I did get to do some of my own like fast paced driving, but that was probably the hardest.

When I came into this part I wanted to do so much, so I did all this training.  I was boxing three times a week, and I was training in Martial Arts, doing some Tai Kwon Do and Jujitsu and hired a guy out of L.A. who actually trains SWAT teams, um, to get more familiar with weapons and to feel comfortable holding them and shooting them, which I’d never done before. So I wanted to be ready for anything and I was happy that they gave me some stuff to do.  Especially not being a super hero, you know?

You’ve worked with Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan on How I Met Your Mother, who have both worked with Joss Whedon. Did they have any words of wisdom for this film?

COBIE SMULDERS: Yeah, it wasn’t a question of words of wisdom it was a blanket statement of  “You’re so lucky!” I’m so excited to get to work with him, because he truly is like an actors’ director.  He took so much care, especially with me playing Maria Hill, who’s a new character. He knows so much, I mean he’s a fan boy, he knows everything there is to know about comic books.  And was the guy, a kid, at Comic-Con from its inception, you know.  So he knew so much about her and about S.H.I.E.L.D. and he was there from the getgo, really.

What would you say in the film appeals to families?

COBIE SMULDERS: What I like about this film is it’s kind of a dysfunctional family, like it’s the way that these sort of separate superheroes have to come together to succeed.  I feel like there’s sort of like a team, a family dynamic within that and it’s cool to see them rise above their personal issues.  And sort of accomplish the goal.

"Cobie Smulders" "S.H.I.E.D. Agent Maria Hill" "Marvel's The Avengers"

It was truly a privilege to sit down and talk with Cobie Smulders.

You can see if The Avengers do rise above their personal issues and watch Cobie Smulders kick some serious butt as Agent Maria Hill by heading to a theater near you and watching Marvel’s The Avengers.  (Opened everywhere May 4th.)

Tom Hiddleston lets his hair down as Loki in Marvel’s The Avengers https://ourknightlife.com/2012/05/tom-hiddleston-lets-his-hair-down-as-loki-in-marvels-the-avengers.html https://ourknightlife.com/2012/05/tom-hiddleston-lets-his-hair-down-as-loki-in-marvels-the-avengers.html#comments Fri, 04 May 2012 03:39:44 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=10133

If you have been following along all week you know that this week I’m writing about all things Marvel’s The Avengers and my amazing trip to New York City!  Just before I was able to walk the red carpet a sneak peak of the closing night screening of Marvel’s The Avengers at the Tribeca Film Festival, I was honored to interview two amazing actors from the movie.

Today I wanted to share my interview with the stunning and talented Tom Hiddelston.  When he walked into the room filled with Mommy Bloggers, Mr. Hiddleston took a moment to go around and shake each and every one of our hands and introduce himself personally.  I can tell you first hand that in his case, “British Charm” is a real thing.  It was hard not to get lost in his ocean colored eyes as he introduced himself to me.  Thankfully, I did remember my name!

For just over 15 minutes Mr. Hiddleston graciously answered all our questions and shared more about his character Loki in Marvel’s The Avengers and why he why he felt honored and privileges to be involved in a movie like this.

FYI – You can find him on twitter @TWHiddleston! Make sure you tell him you are #teamloki!

"Tom Hiddelston" "Marvel's The Avengers"

So, tell us how much you like playing such an evil bad guy.

TOM HIDDLESTON: Well, because I played him before, I kind of feel like I’ve got both my arms around him.  And I understand underneath all of his evil and anger and madness and mania, there’s a sort of emotional heartbreak.  But it was really fun to cut loose and just  let his hair down, literally and metaphorically.

Joss Whedon said that we had to make him more dangerous.  We had to make him more menacing.  Because these superhero films, when they really work, and I think this one does, purely because of Joss’s immaculate writing and direction, the sort of fist-pumping redemption-drama is earned by the heroes having to overcome an obstacle.

And your fist is pumping for Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor, and Captain America and all of those guys because I am that obstacle.  So, um, someone’s got to do it, basically, and it was really fun.  And it was like being a kid, too.  There were days where I was — you know, I had a harness underneath my costume, and wires, just underneath it, attached to the sides, and I was just flying around, like a circus act, like a kid, basically.

Reading your article in the Guardian that touched upon your love of superheroes, which I loved.  When you signed on to be in “Thor” and “The Avengers,” did you actively want to be part of a superhero movie that could potentially inspire children?

TOM HIDDLESTON: Yeah.  Absolutely.  And I don’t think it was something that I really remembered until I had gone through a period of like, exploring other things, expanding my tastes in other directions.

Like, as a kid, I loved superhero films.  “Superman.”  “Indiana Jones.”  Tim Burton’s “Batman.”  Um.  You know.  And then as a teenager, I sort of went off into more kind of, um, refined like, just sort of refined things, like I discovered foreign language cinema and adult films and foreign language stuff and, you know, Shakespeare.  And your taste is just more refined.  And then I kind of remembered actually why I signed up in the first place.

It’s because of Christopher Reeve and you know, I just thought, “Wouldn’t that be amazing?” Before I’d even conceived of acting as a job, before I knew you could make a living being an actor, I wanted to be Superman.  And, I think, if you get this kind of a film right, you can enter a child’s imagination in the most extraordinary way.

How do you find reactions from fans or kids to Loki’s character?

TOM HIDDLESTON: Mark Ruffalo’s son. I kind of dedicate my performance to his son, his ten-year old, because he was on set a lot.  Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige, the producer, they were enormously supportive on set.  They were very complimentary when they liked something that I was doing.  I would do a take, and they would say, “Awesome.  You got it.  Let’s — ”  And Kevin Feige would be like, “God, that was great.  Let’s move on.”  And you get on with the day.  The days that Mark’s son was there, he was like, “Awesome job, Tom.

We got it.  Let’s move on.”  Kevin would say the same thing, and then Mark’s son would say, “Oh, my God!  Tom!  That was incredible!  That was the most awesome thing I have ever seen!”  And I’m like, “I am doing this for you.”  And, you know, there were days when Mark would come in with him just to watch, because he wanted to watch.  He’d be like, “I’m sorry.  We’re here again.  He just loves you.”  And then you realize that that’s the power that these films can have.

It’s such a beautiful thing.  It’s a really amazing privilege.

"Tom Hiddelston" "Marvel's The Avengers"

In bringing this character to life, it’s a huge thing, because you know they already have their stories established and things like that.  So were there any particular details and nuances you tried to add to the character the audience should really look for?

TOM HIDDLESTON: I hope that anyone who has seen “Thor” can recognize him, and see there is still this spiritual damage at the heart of him, underneath his anarchy and his chaos and his anger and destructiveness.

That there is still a vulnerability there.  And I hope that people kind of he’s kind of stylish.  You know.

Despite his hair?

TOM HIDDLESTON: [LAUGHS] Even though he’s terrifying and hateful, there’s a sort of a strange elegance or something that he has.

So is Loki really a villain or is he just jealous of his big brother?

TOM HIDDLESTON: I always think of him as an antagonist as opposed to a villain, but only because every villain is a hero in his own mind.  Uh, and all of us in the world, we, as we move forward with our lives, we make choices, and we like to think that they’re the right choices.

And Loki is making all the wrong choices.  So he’s tragically deluded, and borderline insane, but he still thinks, in the narrative of his life, he’s a hero.  So, I guess, let’s just say I believe in flawed heroes and heroic villains, and I think he, Loki, is a kind of a heroic villain, in a way.

Loki is so multidimensional, and he goes so much further than just your typical villain  Was this character particularly hard to walk away from after you were done?

"Tom Hiddelston" "Marvel's The Avengers" "Loki"

TOM HIDDLESTON: There’s just so much there.  You know, he is this fascist, basically.  He’s — he’s a megalomaniac.  He thinks he’s a king, but he’s also a brother and a son.  And he’s really getting lost — he’s like a lost child in the body of a — of a very powerful chess master. Someone with a chess master’s intelligence, and — and it’s easy to manipulate people.

So he’s kind of a box of fireworks, really.  Um, and there were days where I had such fun with him, and other days inevitably where I woke up with a spring in my step and a smile in my heart, and, uh, had to go into work and set those things to one side and try and cultivate all of his negative feeling.  And that was challenging.  And that’s when it becomes a challenge.  You go, “Oh. This is nothing — this character is feeling none of the things that I am feeling.

theavengersevent04

Last weekend I had the opportunity of a lifetime to fly out as part of the “Mr. Disney Mommy Bloggers” team, put on a fancy dress, and walk the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival.  Once at the end of that carpet, I was given the opportunity to see an early screening of Marvel’s The Avengers.

I have gone to all of the Marvel movies with my husband.  We love watching movies together and he is a huge fan of the Marvel comics, so when these movies would come out it was pretty much guaranteed that we would be going to see them.

Over the years I have learned the story of The Hulk, Ironman, Captain America, Thor, Loki, S.H.I.E.L.D. and so much more from watching them come to life on the screen and listening as my husband filled in any gaps or things I may need to know.

With each passing movie I too have become invested in these characters, and become more and more excited to see each movie at it’s release.  While I wouldn’t say I am a fan on the level of my husband and so many other Marvel comic loving fans out there, I have become a fan.

Since I am not a super fan girl from the Marvel comics, I am not going to try and review this movie from that point of view.  I am simply going to share why this movie is going to be one that fans of all levels, families, and even moms can enjoy.

3 Reasons Why Moms will Love Marvel’s The Avengers

  1. It’s a family friendly movie with good role models!

The Avengers Thor, Ironman, The Hulk, Captian America

My son is almost 3, and while he is still a very young for this movie watching him discover the wonder of a superhero as the movie has been advertised over the past couple of months has been pure joy.  I think The Avengers are great superheroes to look up to.

Many of The Avengers have qualities that kids will look up to, but they also have issues/problems that they need to overcome in order to be the best possible version of themselves. Tony Stark/Ironman has to learn how to work with others and not be selfish, Steve Rodgers/Captain America has to balance his strength with his heart and remember that he isn’t a bully.  Bruce Banner/The Hulk has to learn to control his anger in situations, and Thor needs to learn to be less arrogant.  This movie especially focuses on them working on their flaws as well as perfecting their strengths and finding the right balance to function as a team. I think that makes them great role models for our children to look up to!

A note about ages for this movie: I think depending on your child aged 7+ may be okay, but the movie is PG-13 so use your parental guidance!

  2. You will get lost in the story and laugh a lot!

    MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS

If you are anything like me, and I know there are lots of women out there who have attended the previous Marvel movies with their significant other/or friends, you will love this story.  All the best Marvel characters come together to fight one evil force and save the world.  It is smart, well produced, and super funny.

Before the movie started I turned to the mommy blogger sitting next to me and apologized. I told her I was a shifter and had a hard time sitting still during movies.  Turns out I didn’t need to do that.  I sat through this movie mesmerized by the story, non-stop action, special effects, and more!

Let’s talk characters for a moment.  I think Joss Whedon really got the heart and souls of The Avengers right in this movie.  I will say right now that this is my favorite Hulk movie.  They finally got his character right, and boy did he SMASH!  If you are an Ironman/Tony Stark fan, you will LOVE his role in this movie.  The dynamic between Thor and Loki in this movie seemed more connected and real then even in Thor.  It was also great to see Captain America develop his character more in this movie.  Put all The Avengers in a scene and the result was almost always humorous and powerful!

I pretty much laughed through the entire movie.  There are so many one-liners, smart comments, and just plain silly moments that you can’t help but laugh out loud.  Whether it was “boys will be boys” humor or witty jokes, I can promise you will laugh.

  3. You will be proud to be a woman!

The AVENGERSCobie Smulder as Agent Maria Hill
The female characters in this movie aren’t wimpy.  In fact if anything they are exactly the opposite.  They are smart, strong, and kick some serious butt!  I loved watching a movie that had such strong female leads. I could tell that the director Joss Whedon worked very hard to make sure the women in this movie were powerful and strong, and not needy or demanding.
  4. BONUS

    The men of Avengers!

Tribeca Film Festival Avengers Honor Real Life Superheroes | #TheAvengersEvent https://ourknightlife.com/2012/04/tribeca-film-festival-honors-real-life-superheroes.html https://ourknightlife.com/2012/04/tribeca-film-festival-honors-real-life-superheroes.html#comments Mon, 30 Apr 2012 19:12:18 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=9994

Having had my husband deploy first as a part of the military, and currently as a civilian contractor I know first hand the sacrifice these men, women, and families make everyday.

I think it is so easy to get caught up in our day to day and forget that there are still men and women who are the first responders here at home and many still overseas fighting for our everyday freedoms.

The Tribeca Film Festival choose to honor our everyday heroes at the closing night red carpet screening of Marvel’s The Avengers.

Countdown to New York City | #TheAvengersEvent https://ourknightlife.com/2012/04/countdown-to-new-york-city-the-avengers-event.html https://ourknightlife.com/2012/04/countdown-to-new-york-city-the-avengers-event.html#comments Wed, 25 Apr 2012 03:01:45 +0000 http://www.familylifeinlv.com/?p=9834

At this time on Thursday I will be getting ready to head to NYC!  I will be taking a Red Eye Flight to an amazing city I have not step foot in since I was a tween.

To say I am excited is a bit of an understatement.  I can’t wait to bike through Central Park, visit MoMA, and pay my respects at the 9-11 Memorial.

And before I know it we will be walking the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival with real everyday heroes, and that is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity!  I.AM.SO.EXCITED

Honoring the spirit of the Tribeca Film Festival, the screening will allow the opportunity for Marvel’s The Avengers to celebrate everyday heroes from police agencies, fire departments, first responders and various branches of the U.S. military. These local heroes will have an opportunity to attend the screening and meet the cast.

For weeks I have been preparing for this event!

I found the perfect dress!

Right before the red carpet screening of Marvel’s The Avengers, I will have the amazing opportunity to sit down with Tom Hiddleston who plays the villain “Loki” in the film.

Check him out in this awesome clip!

I will also have a chance to interview Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) who plays kick-butt “S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill”.

Do you have any questions about Marvel’s The Avengers you would like to ask these amazing actors? (Let me know in the comments below!)

And I am pretty sure my little superhero would love to stowaway in my suitcase.  I think he’d be a hit on the red carpet don’t you??
