Imagine finding out your aren’t able, despite all your trying, to have a child. The movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green, directed by Peter Hedges, opens in a doctor’s office with Cindy(Jennifer Garner) and Jim(Joel Edgerton), hearing this very news.
After Cindy decides she needs to move on, Jim tells her that isn’t acceptable. And the first quality they would love to have their child possess is written down. “Never Give Up”. After some wine and many laughs later they have compiled a list of many attributes they hope their child would have if they were ever able to have a child, and in a sweet way of letting go of that dream they put them in a box and bury them in their garden.
Later that night after a torrential rainstorm pounds their property a little boy(CJ Adams) has replaced the box of wishes for their child. Timothy Green very literally grew our of the ground as a result of Cindy and Jim’s list. Timothy is however very different than any other child, and is there to share all his love with everyone he comes in contact with. You never know what will happen next with Timothy.
While this all may seem very far fetched and hard to believe the magic of Disney is very much alive in this movie and you will will quickly find yourself laughing and crying along with this movie. Not to mention sitting on the edge of your seat with anticipation for what may come next.
As a parent I feel in love with this film the first time I saw it. All the actors did an amazing job of bringing you into the story and make you believe in Timothy Green and all the lessons he was there to teach and share. I also loved how this film will find your heart no matter what type of parent you are or how your child came into your life.
As a child this movie will share the message of accepting people regardless of differences, and following your dreams no matter how far fetched they may seem to be.
I loved this movie. I loved all the messages and takeaways I got by seeing it not only once but twice now. There was something amazing about seeing this movie for the second time, and that was I was able to pay attention to the audiences reactions to it. Children loved it, parents loved it, it is really a great family film! It is nearly impossible to not believe in the magic of Timothy Green.
I will warn you that you may want to bring a bit of tissue to the theater as this story will likely have you in tears, especially if you know the true joy and magic a child can bring into the world.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green opens in theaters this week, August 15th!
