Nursery Ideas for Baby #2 | Modern Animals

August 7, 2012 By Emily 50 Comments

I have been thinking for quite sometime on how I would decorate baby boy #2’s room.  With Squishy I went very traditional.  I bought the bed in a bag set, and a few wall decals.  We picked out a kick butt fan to match the airplane theme, and I found a quote that I had made into a wall decal.

Everything came together, but as he grew I was already making changes.  I found that we barely used half of what was in the bed in the bag, and as he got bigger I added extra touches to make the room come together, like a painted mirror, and some personalized wall art.

"Airplane themed Room" "Boys Nursery" "Baby Nursery"Gorgeous hand painted art from Lad and Dad on Etsy.

This time around I wanted to steer clear of the one stop themed room, and build it with individual pieces. Hopefully this will keep me from wanting to make too many changes as he gets older.

When my son was about a year old I found this painting at a local craft fair.  It was a great price, so I bought it.  The only problem was I had no place to put it… until now.

The theme of my second son’s room will be modern animals.  Specifically elephants, giraffes, and alligators.  Our colors for the room will be Aqua, Lime Green, Brown, and maybe a splash of Orange!

I have found several things I would love to add to his room.

Oh I love it, it reminds me of an animal room I had for my boys in which I painted on the walls a giraffe eating the “leaf” like valance. An elephant sprouting water, a large tree with a branch and a toucan resting on it and a coconut tree.

Can’t wait to see what it looks like when it is all done.

These are so cute! I love Etsy and find so many great things on there! Have you bought bedding from there before? I found some for our baby #2 but wasn’t sure about quality and such.

I love an animal themed nursery. I kept my son’s rather neutral, so that as he got older it wasn’t too difficult to change. Now that he is almost 10, I’m glad I did. It definitely paid off. Can’t wait to see your final outcome!

You are so sweet to offer!! I wish they would have worked out!! Even though that one picture has a mobile shown on our crib it was totally rigged to stay up, but was removed pretty quickly since it wasn’t safe!

ok so i love that bedding!!! i went with winnie the pooh for my daughter so that i could reuse it for future kiddos (i know super lame!) and i love it…it’s a little more vintage and i have some older pieces that go really well with the room! i wouldn’t trade it for the world, but i do love that elephant bedding!

I totally see how it would be unsafe! Our crib didn’t have the upper ledge on it so it worked, but at any rate I love your crib. 🙂
