HALO SleepSack Review for September Baby Safety Month

September 24, 2012 By Emily 22 Comments

September is national baby safety month, and one company that works night and day year round to help educate parents on safe sleeping is HALO SleepSack.   The HALO SleepSack is something that every new parent should check out.

About HALO SleepSack

"SIDS Prevention" "Wearable Blankets" "Baby Sleepsacks" "HALO SleepSack"

The unique HALO SleepSack Wearable Blanket replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover your baby’s face and interfere with breathing. No wonder it’s the #1 trusted choice of hospitals and parents alike. In addition to sleeping safer, the HALO SleepSack wearable blanket helps babies sleep better too. It’s a warm, cuddly blanket they can’t kick off, ensuring baby sleeps soundly throughout the night. And when baby is sleeping safe and sound, moms and dads can rest easy.  HALO Innovations is committed to educating about Safe Sleep and a portion of all SleepSack purchases goes toward SIDs prevention organizations.

In addition to the wearable blanket design, printed on every HALO SleepSack is a reminder for everyone that back to sleep is the best way for baby to sleep.

HALO safer way to sleep initiative!

HALO Innovations has been working with hospitals to provide SleepSack Swaddles through the program. Today, over 800 hospitals nationwide are taking part in the program and modeling safe sleep practices for new parents right from their child’s first day of life. Leading health organizations agree that modeling proper baby care in the hospital is the single biggest influencer on how parents will care for their baby in home.  You can find out more about the hospital initiative program on the HALO website.

HALO cares about more than just a safe product.  They want to make sure that parents have access to safety tips for baby’s sleep.  Every parent should know these few tips!

Safe Sleep Tips from HALO SleepSack

Share these tips with all caregivers to ensure safe sleep for your baby:

  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

The HALO SleepSack is perfect for every baby.  In addition to sleeping in it, it is great to keep in your diaper bag for those extra air-conditioned locations you might end up in. Baby is free to move and kick, but won’t kick off the comfort of the HALO SleepSack.  Since my baby is still baking, I was fortunate enough to share the SleepSack with a friend’s son Baby “B”.  He seemed to be quite comfortable in his new SleepSack!

You can buy the HALO SleepSack at Target, Babies R Us, or Amazon.com!

Make sure you check out the HALO SleepSack website for more information about safe sleeping and their hospital initiative program!  You can also follow on Facebook and Twitter!

We have been using a Halo Sleepsack since my daughter grew out of her SwaddleMe’s. They are nice and big and she still has room to grow.

I have never used a Halo Sleep Sack, we have usually just not used any blankets inside baby crib to prevent SIDS but we had a hard time with our last baby who is now 16 months old because he really liked to be swaddled and it was hard getting him to sleep through the night so I would really love to try the Halo products with our baby that is due in April 2013!
