Cuckoo for Coconut Oil! {Tropical Traditions Review & Giveaway} (US/CAN)

November 12, 2011 By Emily 18 Comments

Have you ever tried something you were unsure of, and afterwards wonder what took you so long to try it?

That is how I feel about Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil.

"Coconut Oil" "Tropical Traditions" "Cooking with Coconut Oil"

I have read about it on friends blogs and in the health world for pretty much almost two years now.  After doing some research on Coconut oil I knew the only way to go was with Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil.

This is UN-refined, coconut oil of the highest quality, and it is still made by hand and benefiting families in the rural areas of the Philippines where the coconuts grow.

When it arrived, I was a bit daunted by the solid form.  However, I was quickly reassured that this is completely normal for coconut oil.  A little warm water and it turns to liquid.

Actually the solid form is pretty useful as well.  I decided if I was going to review the oil, I would check out a few different ways to use it.

Cooking – This was what I tried first.  Opening the coconut oil, I was immediately greeted by a sweet coconut smell.   Coconut oil and cooking are like peas in a pod.  I cooked chicken with the coconut oil, and loved how moist the chicken was.  I was also happy that it did not taste like coconuts.

Skin Care – After reading about the benefits that coconut oil can have on your skin, I thought why now?  I have been using coconut oil on my skin for a week now.  I have noticed no change in breakouts, but I am digging how soft my skin is.

Taking it straight up – This method is NOT for me.  I did not like it ingesting it this way.

Mixing it in with my smoothies – This is by far my favorite use of the coconut oil.  I get all the benefits of ingesting coconut oil without feeling like I am eating oil.

This is my personal favorite Smoothie Recipe:

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup kale
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 cup frozen berries (I prefer blueberries)
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1-2 tablespoons Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil

Blend to smoothie consistency.  Enjoy!

This is actually super yummy!  I call it my Cuckoo for Coconut Oil Green Smoothie.  I know some say you can taste the kale in the smoothie, but I disagree.  I think it tastes like fruit.

I think the coconut oil gives me added energy and a boost to get through my day.  Even my son enjoys sneaking sips of this smoothie!

You can find other coconut oil recipes here!

We use coconut oil A LOT. Along with the great benefits of using it for cooking, it works well for the hair also. Love it.
