I can hardly believe it has already been 2 weeks since we welcomed Baby D into our family.
Two weeks of very little sleep, a whole lot of love, and learning to adjust to life with a newborn and a 3.5 year old. We were able to resolve Baby D’s jaundice without any other medical intervention, and as of today he has passed his birth weight coming in at 9lbs 8 ozs!
Squishy is as smitten with Baby D as I am. He sure does love his new brother!
The way Big Brother K loves his new baby just makes my heart swell. He is so gentle, proud, and loving toward his brother.
Everyone he meets he has to introduce them to HIS baby brother, and if no one else is around to show him off, he tells me “Mom take our picture!”
While he loves him, there have been a few times that Baby D isn’t quite sure how he feels about the attention from his brother. I swear he is plotting ways to pay Squishy back when he gets big enough to do so. But really, who doesn’t love a baby pirate!
I have loved watching my son grow right before my eyes. He has so many facial expressions, and it so much more alert at 2 weeks then Squishy was. People say you don’t take as many pictures of your second child as you do your first, but I can’t stop taking pictures!
Baby D is a complete night owl. It seems that he has a sensor that dings whenever mama falls asleep at night. He certainly has his days and nights mixed up, and is always awake at night. I shouldn’t really be surprised as this was when he was the most active in my belly too! While I have him in a co-sleeper, he just isn’t happy unless someone is paying attention to him.
In addition just as I was getting to feel good post baby, I ended up in the hospital with an infection, and have had to slow down in order to not only let my body recover from childbirth but also being sick. I’m finally starting to feel better again.
Plus, while Squishy does love his new brother, he is sure testing boundaries with us. We have had a lot of long nights trying to get Squishy to bed, a few massive tantrums, and even some aggressive behavior to the hubs and myself. We are all learning how to handle this new behavior together.
This really translates into a tired mommy during the day. I often find myself snoozing with him while Dad is either playing with Squishy or Squish is down for his nap.
Recently my husband grabbed my phone while I was sleeping on the couch with Baby D and took this picture. I love EVERYTHING about this picture, messy hair, post baby weight and all! These newborn moments go by so quickly. There really isn’t anything better than the feeling of a newborn on your chest and the smell of new baby in your nose. I love the way my son is curled into me, and the tenderness in this picture. I love that my husband thought it so sweet he took a picture of it. (Which he NEVER does.)
Baby D also had his first visit to the chiropractor. One of the things we are working on his his lazy latch, which my Chiropractor believes is related to a tight jaw due to the way he entered this world. While D is a great nurser, he doesn’t open his mouth as wide as he needs to, and this has resulted in me being sore. I am hopeful we can fix this quickly!
Two weeks into being a mom to two, I have learned very quickly that things aren’t going to be easy, I will probably always be tired, but even with all the tough moments, the amount of love I have for my son’s makes every moment worth it!
Today we are having TNG Photography come to the house to take Baby D’s newborn pictures! I can’t wait to see how they turn out!
Stay tuned for Baby D’s birth story, and some more great guest posts as I continue to spend time with my beautiful boys!

We dealt with some of the same behavior with Sweet T when Gus arrived. It took about a month and a half for things to get back to normal.
