Mini Date Night with Cox Communications | Movies to Celebrate Black History Month

Recently I learned that Cox Communication is celebrating Black History Month by all month long On Demand.   I knew immediately it would be a perfect mini date for the hubs and me to get some quality time together.

Who said date nights need to happen at night!  With Cox On Demand you can watch movies at anytime of that day which is perfect for our schedules! Being the parents of a very young and active toddler, we try to find moments when we can to spend time together, and decided to snuggle into the couch to watch a movie right after the Squishy Monster went down for a nap.

We looked over our choices for movies, I was excited to see Love and Basketball in the “Black Directors” category. This is one of my favorite movies.  In fact my hubs actually bought this movie for me while we were first dating after I mentioned how much I enjoyed it.

We continued looking, and while I really wanted to see The Great Debaters with Denzel Washington, my hubs convinced me to go with Miracle At Santa Anna directed by Spike Lee.  (If you live in Las Vegas you can find this movie by On Demand going to channel 1, then movies, classic movies m-z.)

The story follows four black American soldiers who are trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII.  The movie has a shocking beginning that takes place in the 1983, and then switches to follow the four soldiers in WWII.  The movie was beautiful, poignant, and kept us guessing until the very end.

The hubs and I spent the remainder of the day talking about this film.  It is a great movie and one that will stick with me for a very long time.  I think Spike Lee shined very bright as the director with his choices in the film.

Snuggled up on the couch ready for a our movie!
Getting our silly out! (Yes, we are total goofballs!)
