Cox Communitcations Celebrates Black History Month!

February 11, 2012 By Emily 5 Comments

Did you know February is Black History Month? My husband and I are big history buffs.  (Yep, bet you didn’t know that about "Cable TV" "Cox Cable" "Cox Logo"me.)  History was always my favorite subject in school, and a subject that I continue to enjoy even though I am no longer required to.

This month Cox Communications is celebrating the culture and contributions of African Americans during Black History Month by highlighting culturally relevant programming available On Demand to educate and inspire viewers.

Not only am I excited about having some pretty cool programs to watch on Black History, but I know picking a movie to watch together with my husband will be an easy task since we both enjoy history.

For the entire month of February Cox will be highlighting a variety of programming, including selections focusing on African American history, documentaries that shed light on African American triumphs, historical dramas, feature films, comedy and music. The content includes programming based on literature about African Americans, and many written by, starring, directed or produced by people of color.

A few that we are pretty excited to watch this month include:

The Miracle of St. Ana (On Demand) – A 2008 war film directed by Spike Lee. The story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII.

The Great Debaters(On Demand) – A 2007  drama film  based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas. In 1935, he inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.

The Loving Story (HBO) – focuses on Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple living in Virginia in the 1950s, and their landmark Supreme Court case to declare their marriage legal that changed history.

I plan to share a bit more about these movies through out the month.

"Black History" "Celebrate Black History Month" "Black History Month on HBO"

Do you like to watch movies about history?

Will you watch any movies in celebration of Black History Month?

Disclosure: I wrote this post while participating in a blog campaign conducted by Everywhere Society on behalf of Cox Communications. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.  All my thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don’t watch movies as much as I’d like to (kids’ tv seems to be all I see these days!) but I love a movie based on real events, and those three sound great, particularly the Spike Lee one. Will add it to be list of ‘must watch’!
