Educational iPad/iPhone App for Toddlers and Preschoolers | AR Flashcards Animal Alphabet Review

April 3, 2012 By Emily 9 Comments

When my son turned two he began showing major interest in my phone.  Once we got an iPad that interest was multiplied times 1000!

It amazes me how fast he picks up on the technology to use the iPad/iPhone and play his games.  I figured since he was showing such an interest in the games on there, I would load it up with apps that are not only fun, but very educational and help him learn while he is playing.

If there are two things he is really into right now it is the alphabet and animals.  That is why the AR Flashcards Animal Alphabet by Mitchlehan Media is perfect for my toddler.

About AR Flashcards Animal Alphabet

Features include:

– 26 beautifully rendered Animals to help your toddler or preschooler learn!

– Tap on each Animal to hear the letter and name of the Animal!

– Print out the flashcards or use two iOS devices to access the flashcards from within the app in a swipeable gallery!

uses Augmented Reality, which is cutting edge technology that superimposes computer generated technology over a live view of the world.

After you purchase the app (for iPhone/iPad at $1.99), you are given 26 flashcards to print out.  Then all you have to do is click on the app to start it up, and hold the phone or iPad over each card and a 3D image of that animal will pop up.  When you touch the screen it will say the animal letter and name.  Example: “O, Owl”

If you don’t want to print out the flashcards, you don’t need to if you have both an iPad and iPhone.  Just use the iPad flashcards and hold your iPhone over the image.  It works just the same as the physical flashcard!

*Tip, try having the cards laminated or attach them to cardboard.  They work better when they are flat, or you are at a distance. Please note in my video I was pretty close to the cards, and trying to operate my camera as well as the application.
