One year ago tomorrow, January 12, 2010, Haiti’s world changed. An earthquake devastated their country. In the wake of this earthquake, making a living is virtually impossible. Getting Haitians back on their feet by giving them a job is exactly what the Heart of Haiti Project is about.
Macy’s has partnered with Fairwinds Trading to create Heart of Haiti project where Haitian artists can create handcrafted traditional items for the home, and in return they get much needed income to slowly regain their footing.
The items start at just $10 and range from beautifully created metal bowls, and picture frames, to hand-painted trays and bowls. I love these hand-sewn potholders and beautiful metal bowls.
The artisans use all different kinds of raw materials to create their works of art. And each piece is truly one of a kind.
This is really a win-win situation. By purchasing these items not only do you get a beautiful one of a kind craft for your home or to give as a gift, and the artists get to begin to put their lives back together.
Thanks to Macy’s, and Willa Shalit founder of Heart of Haiti, and CEO of fairwinds trading company, you can , own a piece of Haitian culture, and make a difference in the life of someone who truly deserves it!
I was selected for this very special “CleverHaiti” opportunity by Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity. All opinions are my own.
