February 2, 2011 By Emily 6 Comments

Family and Life in Las Vegas

Welcome to week 25 of Toddler Talk Thursday! Where Family and Life in Las Vegas, Crazy about my Baybah, and My Life as a Sippy Cup Mom Talk all things Toddler!

Toddler Talk Thursday was created as a place for moms and dads of toddlers to come together over a weekly topic and share ideas, go-to toys, or products. It is a great way to meet other bloggers of toddlers. Each week the topic will be different; we invite you to link up, share your weekly Toddler Talk!!

Each week the hosts will travel around to each blog that links up, and pick an idea, story, or picture they think was a great example of that weeks topic. In order to qualify for this you need to blog about this week’s topic, and follow the hosts. Comments letting us know you are participating are always great too. If we choose your blog, we will link back to your post the following week.

Our highlighted blog this week is:
Katie at Practical Parenting– Thanks for your great Potty Training Tips!

This week’s topic is :

Temper Tantrums

The other day I cleaned out my son’s closet.  There I found a pair of rubber froggie rain boots that Auntie had bought for him.  Unfortunately, since we don’t have a ton of rain here – I forgot about them and he has now out grown them!

So I pulled them out – and gave them to Squish just to play with.  (He loves carrying shoes around the house; my crazy little boy!)

Later that day, even though I knew they were too small for him, I decided I would try to get them on anyways!  BAD BAD IDEA!
EPICALLY BAD IDEA!

Of course they didn’t fit, but what I didn’t think about was that Squish loves to wear shoes so much he would FLIP OUT when I couldn’t get them on!

This was his first full blown tantrum.

He threw himself on his belly,
He pounded his fists on the carpet,
He kicked his legs as hard as he could,
He cried.
What did I do??

I laughed!
I laughed so loud my Sister-In-Law came out of her room to see what was up.

Laughing only made Squish even more upset, but seriously he looked ridiculous.

I am an awful Mom, right?  Laughing at their child, who does that?!

I had found another pair of Dinosaur rain boots in a size bigger then Squish is currently wearing when I cleaned out his closet.  (Great minds think alike – buy them when they are $4 on clearance!)

So I pulled those out, and put them on my son’s feet.  He gave me the biggest smile and spent the next 30 minutes walking around in his too big boots…. (read a much slower less crazy Squish!)

So I kinda gave in to his temper tantrum, but it was really my fault.  In the future I plan on ignoring them for the most part….
unless we are at the store – then snacks work wonders!  (Yes, I am “that” mom!)

Link Up Suggestions:

1. We ask that you follow all three hosts. That way you can keep up to date on future Toddler Talks.

Thanks for the shout out from last week! Can’t wait to link up again…temper tantrums is always a hot button issue! My 2 year old son can throw one like nothing I’ve ever seen. And sometimes he won’t even take the snacks! Jelly beans on the other hand…

I just walk away from my tantrum kid when we are at the store. He straightens up most times.

Awww squishe… they all love shoes! Baby M loves to put on her sisters shoes, which are like 5 sizes too big! lol
And yes, I think it’s okay to laugh it off sometimes. And that will sometimes calm them down too. But I think it would be healthy to tell them why you’re laughing (cus you look silly or something).
    He’s too adorable!

Thank you – that is a great idea to explain why I am laughing. I am sure at some point I will have to – as even that time it didn’t seem to make him very happy to see I was laughing… They are so goofy aren’t they?
