“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”
— Dr. Seuss (Oh, the Places You’ll Go!)
I found this fun post over on Crazy about My Baybah blog. I thought it looked super fun, so I thought I would join in.
The colored states are all ones I have been too. It is possible I missed a state or two. But I suppose if I can’t remember it, then I shouldn’t be marking it down anyways right?
So where are my favorite places?
1. Chicago! I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and lived in the city for quite a few years during college and afterwards. I met my husband there. I have danced in the streets, and swam at the beach. Chicago is home to my favorite sports team of all time, the Chicago Cubs! Many a lazy afternoon was spent in the confines of Wrigley. From Downtown to everywhere else in Chicago, I love that city. It will always be a home to me.
2. Minnesota! (Mainly Twin Cities area) I have so many family members that now live in MN, my mom, brother, sister-in-law, sister, aunts, cousins… I have been to the State Fair, and spent many a cold day in the snow there. They saw “Home is where your heart is”, and part of my heart is always in MN!
3. Sanibel Island, Florida! I grew up spending Christmas vacation on Sanibel Island. From the time I was a little girl, up until last year. I have enjoyed all that the sandy beaches and humid air had to offer. I have so many memories from this place. It will always be near and dear to me.
4. Newport Beach, California. I spent a wonderful two weekends there with my husband. While we aren’t huge fans of California as a whole (no offense) we are big fans of The Crab Cooker. Seriously, yummy. Hands down, the best seafood I have EVER had.
5. Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. I visited when I was a little girl, and then again when I was a teenager, but I love the feeling this part of the country has. So laid back and relaxed.
6. Springfield, Missouri. I went to college here (before I transferred to UIC), and without the experiences I had in Springfield I wouldn’t be who I am today.
7. Disneyland, California! A magical place. I enjoyed a wonderful weekend here with my husband. It was so fun being like little kids again. While the castle didn’t live up to my husbands childhood memories, that weekend left lots of fond memories with me.
Last, but not least…
8. Galveston, Indiana. This is the place my husband grew up. When we were dating, it was long distance while I lived in Chicago. So I often visited him here. I love this place for the simple fact that it is where my husband is from.
I hope to get to Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon soon.
So what are you favorite places?

Oh that is so fun! You have quite an impressive amount colored. I think mine might be close to that but only because I grew up driving for every vacation so a lot of my colored states would be because I drove through them! Not sure if that counts!

We plan to visit Disneyland when our daughter’s old enough to appreciate it – can’t wait! My favourite place is Kauai, Hawaii, where we spent our honeymoon. It is absolutely perfect. Gorgeous and peaceful, without the commercialism of the other islands. No wonder celebrities go there to get away.

Good for you for being able to visit so many places. I personally have been to all the states on the east coast (well, through them anyway!), but have really only gotten to visit all of the northeast states, North Carolina, and Florida, and now am living in Ohio (I hate it, since I grew up in New Jersey – what a difference!) I’d love to spend a summer going through all the states.
Emily says
Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping in! I haven’t even had a moment to go check out the fun link ups yet!! I think a summer road trip would be a blast!! Hope you had a nice weekend! Stop in again some time! 🙂

I love how colorful your map is! We had a map like that on our basketball court in our elementary school growing up. My country wouldn’t be quite so colorful though!

Emily says
Thanks Pamela, being a competitive diver had a great hand in it! I can’t say I saw all the sites that many of these places have to offer, but I have been there!

Chicago and Cape Hatteras are 2 of my favorite places as well. I haven’t been to nearly as many states as you have, but I’ve enjoyed most of the ones I’ve visited. You can include Atlantic City in that too.
