The Power of a Personal Mantra {Top Ten Tuesday}

October 25, 2011 By Emily 15 Comments

There is one part of my day that I swear follows the movie Groundhog Day all too closely.

The time of the day when my alarm first goes off.

Without fail my body says one of the following to me, “Crap! Is it time already? Didn’t I just fall asleep?ย  Why am I still SO STINKING TIRED?”

We have all been there.

You wake up, still tired, groggy, a list of things to do today that no human being can possibly accomplish.

And yet since no one has invented a pause button for life, you have to put your feet on the ground and go about your day as best as you can.

What if I told you I had a secret on how to make that reality a bit easier to swallow?

Nope, it isn’t a something you can take – but rather something you can say.

The power of having a personal motivational mantra is real. And it works!

Everyday I try to wake up and take a few minutes to focus on my mantra.

Repeat it over and over, visualize it, say it out loud.

The reason it works is because of one thing:

You do not have control over what your day may bring you, but you have control on how you will handle them.

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.ย  – Wayne Dyer

Starting your day with a personal motivational mantra allows you to put yourself in a positive frame of mind.ย  This in turn will help you react better to the curve balls your day throws you.

Here are a 10 personal mantras I use both at the beginning, during, and end of my day.

Some are simple, others are tried and true, all awesome!

  • If you can dream it, you can do it.
    Walt Disney
  • This is the beginning of a new day.
    You have been given this day to use as you will.
    You can waste it or use it for good.
    What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.
    When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever;
    in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.
    Unknown
  • Believe in the Yourself
    Trust the Process
    Change Forever
    Bob Harper
  • Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
    So throw off the bowlines.
    Sail away from the safe harbor.
    Catch the trade winds in your sails.
    Explore. Dream. Discover.
    Mark Twain
  • Go forward and make your dreams come true.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • We are what we repeatedly do.
    Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
    Aristotle
  • Just Do It!
    Nike
  • No one has ever drowned in sweat.
    Lou Holtz
  • To awaken each morning with a smile brightening my face;
    to greet the day with reverence for the opportunities it contains;
    to approach my work with a clean mind;
    to hold ever before me, even in the doing of little things, the ultimate purpose toward which I am working;
    to meet men and women with laughter on my lips and love in my heart;
    to be gentle, kind, and courteous through all the hours;
    to approach the night with weariness that ever woos sleep and the joy that comes from work well done;
    this is how I desire to waste wisely my days.
    Thomas Dekker
