Toddler Talk Thursdays {Dealing with Toddler Tantrums}

November 16, 2011 By Emily 2 Comments

"Toddler Talk" "Toddler" "Parents Toddler Advice"

Toddler Talk Thursday was created as a place for moms and dads of toddlers to come together over a weekly topic and share ideas, go-to toys, or products. It is a great way to meet other bloggers of toddlers. Each week the topic will be different; we invite you to link up, share your weekly Toddler Talk!!

Each week the hosts will travel around to each blog to see what topic your suggest for the following week. If we choose your topic – you will be our featured blog.

Keep the GREAT suggestions coming. We have an on-going list we will choose from each week. Some topics are ones we have done in the past – but that doesn’t mean we won’t revisit them!!

In order to qualify for this you need to blog about this week’s topic, and follow the hosts.

And the end of your post – suggest a topic for next week.

Comments letting us know you are participating are always great too. If we choose your blog, we will link back to your post the following week.

This Week’s Topic:
How do you handle Toddler Temper Tantrums?
Squishy will be 2.5 years old next month.  I thought we were good with the “terrible twos”, but lately he is acting up something fierce.
"Dealing with Tantrums" "Tantrums"
Right now we handle tantrums on a case by case basis.
Sometimes we let him flop on the floor and get it out of his system.
Other times I try desperately to distract him.
(My current favorite way of doing this is to walk away from him and pour myself a glass of water from my Brita pitcher.  Since he really loves to help me fill it back up and watch the water drip, he will forget why he is mad and ask for some too!)
Finally, there are times when I give into his tantrum and let him have what he wants. (These are usually public tantrums.)
I try to tell him to use his words, or show me what he wants.
Most of the time I don’t mind them, but they are happening more and more in public.  And talk about feeling the eyes of a thousand people on you.
How do you handle public tantrums?  Do you leave?  Give timeouts?  Give into a two year old’s demands?

I love participating in these! And my topic suggestion for last week ended up being discussed a lot in the comments, but I think I separated it a little better this week. 🙂
