Outside Fun with Step2 Fort Slide-Away | @TheStep2Company Review

May 28, 2012 By Emily 17 Comments

Step2 Review

Living in Las Vegas means two things for outdoor play:

  1. The warmer year-round weather means that there is a lot of time spent outside.
  2. There isn’t a lot of backyard space in most homes.

We are fortunate that we have a nice sized backyard, but even still with the desert landscaping we are very conscious of how much play area we have.  That is one of the reasons why I love Step2 Outdoor play toys so much. Even their biggest items still make use of every space they use.  The Step2 Fort Slide-Away is no exception!

Not only is it a really tall slide that is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, but it also have a very spacious fort underneath!  When I say spacious, I can tell you that at 5’9 I can fit inside with my son.  (We are a bit squished, but it was still fun!)

About The Step2 Fort Slide-Away:

Fort and slide combination is perfect for kids who love the outdoors, and for moms who love to watch their kids have fun and make-believe. Made in USA.

  • Features mesh ventilation windows for the kids and sight lines for mom
  • Tent fabric is durable, weather and tear resistant
  • Tent floor material keeps kids dry and provides additional protection from ground
  • Slide length 5 feet
  • Slide wipes clean easily
  • Adult assembly required
  • Intended for family and domestic use only

My only issue with the Fort Slide-Away was the assembly of the fort.  The slide went together effortlessly, but adding the tent proved to be time consuming.  If my hubs was deployed and I was putting it together on my own I would have not been able to do it.  It is definitely made for someone who is really good at construction, and much better when two people work on it.  My hubs works on airplanes and had some issues with the directions.

The directions say you will only need a screwdriver, wrench, and hammer, but we found it to be much easier if you have a cordless drill.  Screwing in some of the screws took major arm strength.  The drill made it much easier.

We ended up being very thankful we had the drill.  After trying very VERY hard to link up the tent bottom with the holes like it showed us, but we were not able to do so.  We had to drill our own holes, there was simply no other way to make it work.

Once we got past that and patiently put the rest of it together it was time to let my son loose on the Step2 Fort Slide-Away!  He had so much fun sliding down it, hiding underneath it, running through it, putting his monster trucks down it, you name it, he does it!

"Step2" "Toddler Slide" "Outdoor Play Equipment"

The Step2 Fort Slide-Away comes with two stakes so you can anchor the slide down.  They say it is perfect for ages 2-5, but I think younger kids would love the tent, and older kids will still enjoy the tall slide.  It is a great addition to our backyard!

When it comes to the Step2 Fort Slide-Away as long as you are patient with putting the slide and tent together, you and your child will really enjoy the final product! I see this slide being something we love for many years, and hopefully a few kids to come!

Disclosure: I received this product as part of the Step2 Mom Test Drive Program.  No additional compensation was given. All thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.

What a fun slide! Both of my boys (4) and (2) love forts so a fort/combo slide would be super cool for them!

This slide looks awesome and the fort is only an added bonus. Squishy looks happy! I’m glad you got it assembled even though you had to make some of your own adjustments. I can’t put anything together without my husband, even the easy stuff!

What an awesome fort! My kids would love that. I will have to check into some of the Step2 toys, since we are looking for some outside play stuff as our kids get older. Thanks for sharing.
