Maclaren Twin Techno Double Stroller Review

July 19, 2012 By Emily 45 Comments

With baby number two on the way I knew we were going to need a double stroller.  While my son will be 3 when the baby is born, he still likes to sit and ride pretty frequently.  I absolutely LOVED my Maclaren Triumph, in fact it is probably our most used stroller, and I am a bit of a stroller junkie!  So I knew a double Maclaren was in our future!

To say I was excited to see the Maclaren Twin Techno arrive at our home is pretty much and understatement.  I knew this stroller was going to be a great addition to our family, and carry my two sons on many occasions.

One of my favorite features on all Maclaren strollers is the 5 point harness and buckle.  This buckle is a lifesaver, my 3 year old still can not undo this by himself which gives me added peace of mind.

I love the double baskets for extra gear, and I also like the peek a boo windows so when the canopy is in place I can still see the children. Since I still have about 20 weeks left in my pregnancy, I decided to put the stroller to the ultimate push test.  Two toddlers!

On the left you can see how large canopies are.  They even have a little rain shield built in, that is tucked up inside the canopy easily when not needed.  They move independently which is a wonderful feature.

On the right both toddlers are reclined. I actually had two small bags in each basket, so they did not fully recline, but they have 5 different reclining positions."Maclaren Twin Techno Stroller" "Maclaren Twin Techno Review" "Stroller Review" "Double Stroller" "Maclaren"

As you can see the Twin Techno is great for two toddlers.  All three children were comfortable and had plenty of head room.  The canopies actually raise up to allow for more head room if needed.

I put the stroller to the “mall test” knowing we would encounter lots of narrow aisle and doors. Pushing two 35 lbs toddlers is a bit of a workout.  You have to use both handles to maneuver the stroller, but we had no issues with door clearance or shopping racks while using the double stroller.

Maclaren Twin Techno Features – Ultimate comfort and performance that is built for two

Basic Weight:  12.2kg/26.9lbs

Carrying Capacity:  Up to 30kg/110 lbs

Recline:  Five positions

Appropriate From:  Birth

Wheel Size:  15.2cm/6in

Includes:  Two Head Huggers and Shoulder Pads, Matching Boots, Raincover, Cup Holder

Here is an example of what the Maclaren Twin Techno stroller would look like for a newborn and a toddler.  On the left the seat is fully reclined, and I installed the infant head rest for additional head support.  I also extended the leg area out flat for the newborns comfort.

On the right there is no head rest, and the seat is in it’s full and upright position.  The leg rest is not extended at all, and allows my toddler to sit comfortably and rest his feet on the bottom foot strap.

I wanted to highlight a few other features that I personally love. Starting at the top left you can see the double cup holder is key!  Perfect for two sippy cups, a bottle and a sippy cup, or even my water bottles.  On the top right I am highlighting the individual easy seat recline.  Now to the bottom left, you can see there is plenty of basket space for a purse and diaper bag.  Although you should not with a diaper bag in the basket, you will not be able to recline the seat much if at all, and when the seats are reclined access to your bags will be limited.  Finally note the additional pockets for storage on the back of both seats, as well as the easy to use step breaks for each side of the Maclaren Twin Techno Stroller.

The Maclaren Twin Techno is extremely portable and folds very flat.  In fact, I can fold this stroller down and have it in my trunk with in 15 seconds.  I would also like to mention that even with the double stroller I still have room for groceries and more!

I only have one complaint about this stroller.  I could not figure out if I installed the canopies properly. One of them would constantly be crooked and falling a bit into the frame.  This was not an issue for use of the canopies and it did not impact the kids at all, but it did bother me.

All Maclaren strollers also feature rain covers that are included. Foot muffs and blankets or liners can be purchased separately.

The Maclaren Twin Techno retails for $445.00 and is available in black, crown blue, and champagne.  This may seem a bit pricy for a stroller, but I can tell you from personal use of our single Maclaren, this stroller will last you past children’s stroller riding days and even comes with a lifetime warranty.

The simplicity of this stroller, ease of use, and small fold make this a must have stroller for any parent with two riders.  I love that I will be able to use it with my newborn from day one if I wanted to, and with the 110lb weigh limit I can continue using it as both my children grow.

Make sure you are following Maclaren on Facebook and Twitter for all the up to date information!

It looks like a nice easy to use stroller for quick trips at the store, etc. I love the 2 cup holders on the back too. (You know, the important stuff, lol.) Do the handlebars adjust at all? My struggle is that I’m 5’10” and DH is 6’3″ so we need tall strollers to be able to use them comfortably..

Tamara, I am 5’9, hubs is 6’1. This is one of the reasons I love the Maclaren line, they are very tall person friendly. They don’t adjust but they are taller than your standard stroller!

I’m a huge Maclaren fan!! I can’t wait to get one for Sweet Baby girl.. Hubby however wants one of those 3 wheeled ones. Maclaren’s are just much more easy to use!

You have to get one! I seriously love how easy they are to use, and how small they fold. I also have a 3 wheeled one that we use for off road events (like festivals or workouts)

We have a single Maclaren stroller which I like but now that my daughter is older, I think the 5-point harness is a bit cumbersome.

Good job pushing those two kiddos around mama. It sounds like a lovely stroller and I really like that the rain shield moves independently – very helpful in the Portland rain 🙂

I cannot believe how small it gets when it is folded. That is very important. Did it tip when the kids were not in the stroller and their were bags on the back?

Seems really nice! I can definitely appreciate the convenience of two cup holders – I’ve used ones that don’t have any before and they are such a pain. One is necessary and two is awesome.

Maclaren products are outstanding! Thanks for such great detailed review, although i don’t need a double stroller…yet. My sister was looking for one since she has 2 girls and I’ll definitely recommend her this one. I love that it has the 5 point harness and buckle and that a 3 year old cannot unbuckle it!, this is a constant problem with my nieces and the fact that they are in the stroller doesn’t make us feel like they are safe since they can unbuckle and run off (they are 3 yrs old) so that will be the definite selling feature my sister will consider 🙂

I’ve seen a lot of back to back ones but not sure if I like them. I’m not used to double strollers and used to think only moms of multiples (twins, triplets) needed them!

I’m having the same exact problem with my canopies! One side pops off, and the inside of the left canopy keeps dipping into the frame. I’m searching on the internet, but I have yet to find a solution. I am seeing that many other people have this problem too, though.

    Hi Emily,
May I ask you why don’t you let the boys out of the buggy so they can have a wonder around in the toy store and only make them sit back in if they don’t listen to you and misbehave .
