36 WEEKS! WHAT!
You would think at this far along I would have a lot done by now, but just for kicks let’s talk about what I don’t have done…
- I don’t have my bags packed.
- We haven’t done anything to the nursery.
- We don’t have a name picked out.
- I have a plethora of clothes to wash.
- I don’t have baby’s diapers washed yet.
I know there are a lot more things to add to that list, but I can say I have a few things done. I have a place for baby to sleep when he comes home (in a co-sleeper), I plan on breastfeeding again so that is taken care of, and I have his car seat all ready to go. So really, if baby was to come early, we’d be okay. We plan on spending the weekend in the nursery and the store picking up last minute items.
There really is a lot to look forward to in the next couple of weeks!
I can’t tell you how excited I am to be having a baby shower this time around. I know it seems silly to be so excited, but with Squishy, my family lived too far away, and honestly my “friends” were more girls I would go out with who weren’t at the same stage of life I was. While I had a wonderful weekend where my Aunt and Mom came to visit and shop for baby, I always felt a little sad I didn’t have a baby shower. It’s amazing what changes in a few years. I am so thankful to have AMAZING girlfriends who wanted to put together a little shower for me. For me it has nothing to do with the gifts, but rather the whole idea of celebrating the baby with friends. I can’t wait!!
I’ll be sure to share some pictures from that day! And speaking of pictures I am also really looking forward to having a maternity photo shoot/family pictures done with TNG Photography! I didn’t do any with Squishy, but this time it just seems right to mark our family before the arrival of Baby Monster Truck. If only I could decide on what to wear!
I have to say, with everything that has been going on medically lately I am enjoying looking at the positives. In my 32 week pregnancy update, I had just found out that I have Gestational Diabetes. Since then I have not only started a new diet, 6 times daily finger pricks, twice weekly monitoring, and also nightly injections of insulin. While my numbers are controlled during the day with diet, my fasting numbers are always high. These are the numbers that seem to have the most impact on baby, so they started me on insulin.
Other than a million appointments a week (okay, just 4…) and the pricks and sticks, I feel SO much better at this point in my pregnancy than I did with Squishy. I think my side-by-side comparison pictures shows that too. I feel much less swollen at this stage in the game. I think baby Monster Truck is sitting lower than Squishy was though so it is hard to tell who is bigger. This will be the last comparison picture though, Squish was born at 38 weeks when I was induced for preeclampsia.36 weeks Baby #1 – 36 weeks Baby #2
One of the big bonuses of bi-weekly monitoring has been seeing baby Monster Truck so much. Usually he has his face buried in my spine, but today he was turned toward my belly, and I was given a brief glimpse at his super chubby cheeks! Yes, I am pretty sure baby will be big. The question is now, HOW BIG?
How far along? 36 weeks 1 day
Total weight gain: I have stopped looking. I am gaining weight quickly, and also am pretty swollen. So I have asked to stop knowing how much I gain each week. My Doctor will let me know if he is concerned.
Maternity clothes? Um, heck yes!
Stretch marks? The old ones are starting to show more color again…
Sleep: Is getting pretty difficult. I am just not comfortable at night.
Best moment this week: Seeing my sweet little baby’s face!
Miss Anything? SUGAR! It really sucks craving something that will hurt your baby… I dream of lemon danish!
Movement: It’s hard to tell where baby isn’t at this point!
Food cravings: See above – miss anything.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Chicken.
Fitness: Ugh, no – well nothing in the gym. I am trying to walk more on a daily basis for my sugar levels. I am totally loving that my gym Lifetime Fitness offers other services such as hair appointments, spa treatments, and my son just started swim lessons!
Labor Signs: Baby is lower, Braxton Hicks.
Symptoms: Heartburn, Sciatic, SPD, Gestational Diabetes.
Belly Button in or out? Half in half out.
Wedding rings on or off? Off.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Depends on the day!
Looking forward to: My baby shower and my maternity pictures!
NOT looking forward to: The conversation I get to have with my OB tomorrow about NOT inducing…

sorry to hear about the GD 🙁 I didn’t have to deal with that but I can only imagine how hard it is to prick so many times a day and really watch your diet. I’m sure baby is thankful though.
And you look absolutely adorable.
Thank you Jennifer! I don’t mind doing it all for a healthy outcome. 🙂
You look so fantastic! I can’t imagine how hard the diet has been, but not too much longer!! Love that picture of Monster Truck’s face!
Actually the diet isn’t hard, the shots aren’t bad, I don’t like the finger pricks but I do it, and don’t mind at all!! I really don’t mean to complain. It’s just so different than my last pregnancy!
You look amazing, and you’re nearly done! You better pack those bags.
I know right!!

Great photo from the ultrasound!
I’m currently @26 weeks. We just moved to Australia 2 months ago, so I won’t be having any kind of baby shower either, similar to your first little guy. It kind of makes me a little sad and homesick, and I know how you must have felt at the time!!!
Looking forward to reading some of your past pregnancy posts. They’re always so much better to read than self-help books 🙂
