Valentines Day is fast approaching and I thought this would be the perfect time to share these adorable heart shaped cupcakes! These are very special to me as my mother would make these for my birthday every year (February baby here!) and I do the same for my daughter who is also born in February! I even whipped these up when I was in labor with her and brought to share with the labor and delivery nurses and doctors! Let me tell you, they are always a huge hit and they are very, very easy to do!
Ingredients/Materials list:
- Marbles
- Cake mix (and everything you need for your mix…milk, eggs, oil, etc)
- Cupcake pan
- Cupcake liners
- Slightly serrated knife
- Pastry piping bag- Don’t have one? Don’t worry! Grab a ziplock bag, scissors and a glass instead!
- Colored frosting
- Sprinkles are optional but oh so fun
Mix up your cake batter as you would normally do for making cupcakes. Before you pour the batter into the cupcake tin, take a single marble and place on the outer side of each liner. This is what is going to give you the heart shaped look! Don’t have any marbles? Roll up some tin foil to approximate marble size and that will work just fine! Fill your liners 2/3rds of the way full and bake like normal.
If you put too much batter in the liner and it runneth over like mine did there is no reason to fret! Just grab that serrated knife and cut off the excess so it gives it back its heart shaped look! They will be frosted so it doesn’t have to be perfect!
If you don’t have a piping bag and tip, I have a really easy solution for you! Take a ziplock baggie and stand it up in a cup. Then scoop some of your frosting into the corner of the bag. Twist the bag to get most of the air out. Cut the tip off of the corner of the bag. Squeeze gently and you can begin piping!
Now its time to frost these babies! I start on the outside of the heart working my way in, but there are really no rules. Do what looks good to you! Sometimes I skip the whole piping bit and just spread on with a butter knife and it looks adorable and is a great option for when little hands want to help! Add sprinkles and enjoy!

This is so clever- it’s one of those pins I’ always plan on making but worry it would never turn out as nice as the pin. You make it look so easy so I’m going to give it a try!
