Cloth diapering isn’t complicated. It may seem complicated at times, but in reality- its not. Are there a lot of choices for cloth diapers out there? Yes. Do you need them all? No. However, a time may come where what you have just isn’t working. The diapers don’t fit right (usually an easy fix), but more commonly – leaking! No one wants to have all the extra laundry that gets associated with leaking diapers. Extra clothes, blankets, sheets, car seats, or where ever your child is sitting/laying. The most common time for leaks to happen is overnight. Especially when babies are still nursing/eating late at night or during the night. As babies get older they also can hold it longer and then have a lot more when they go. Night time diapering can be a struggle but there are many solutions out there like Geffen Baby!
I have never had problems with Hannah. She isn’t a heavy wetter and all of my simple night time solutions have worked for her and she is 2.5. Teddy has been a different story. He started out wetting a lot more and is still a pretty heavy wetter. He will wake up to wet pjs probably 3x a month and wet enough I’ll have to change his bed maybe once a month. It’s not terrible, but it is annoying. I will be honest I haven’t tried a lot of solutions and I usually just try adding a small booster, BUT then I started hearing AMAZING stories about Geffen baby prefolds! We typically use prefolds & covers at night just because its simple (and a lot cheaper!).
We received the Fleece Prefold Diaper in size M/L to try out! It is 60% hemp and 40% cotton. It is soft organic cotton fleece on the outside and I haven’t even used a liner with it for stay dry purposes! It has gotten much softer the more I have washed it!
Hemp and cotton can take quite a few washes to fully ‘prep’ for overnight diapering use. Geffen Baby says that the hemp will continue to gain absorbency up through 8-10 washes. That is a lot of washes and I usually lose count after 5. This prefold had maybe 4-5 washes before I didn’t think about it and just used it straight for night time for Teddy. Without being fully prepped – he woke up completely dry! I was excited! It is very very absorbent. It doesn’t even ‘feel’ wet in the mornings! We have continued to use this for about a month and have no overnight leaks! I also tested it on Hannah because as a toddler, she can really flood a diaper at times. She had no issues with this diaper either!
Both of my kids are tummy sleepers – So here is how I fold the Fleece Prefold before putting it on. This allows for extra absorbency in the front for when they are laying down. I fold down the top to fit each kids size & fit in side the cover. Then just tri-fold!
There are occasionally some jokes going around about night time diapering because the diapers can get pretty bulky when you stuff extra boosters inside them! This one prefold is actually quite trim. It is not as trim as a regular daytime prefold, but I don’t expect that in a night time diaper. He gets around just fine with the diaper on! (cover is a Best Bottom)

I love the idea of a fleece prefold! In all my searching, I never found them. Those are definitely the ones I would go for. I’m just now starting cloth diapers with my 5 week old (my first), and there are so many decisions to make when buying your first stash!

I’d love to try the organic prefold. My baby isn’t here yet. I’m past due 8 days and being induced in two more, but I’ve been building a stock to cloth diaper and only getting organic fabrics.

Reading your blog post about the geffen folds after all the discouragement from friends about wanting to cloth diaper, is so reassuring. This is definitely what I want to try for diapering our first child. We’re due in October and are not diapering yet, but plan to from day one.
I’d like to try the fleece prefold, purple trim, and L.
