Minion Mania! Despicable Me 2 Movie Review

July 3, 2013 By Emily 16 Comments

It’s hot outside, your kids are whining, everyone’s sticky, and the worst phrase a child can say is just about to be uttered…

MOM, I’M BORED!

What everyone needs is to cool down and get a good laugh, why not head over to your local movie theater and see Despicable Me 2!

In the sequel to 2010’s Despicable Me, Gru (Steve Carell) is back trying to balance the ropes of fatherhood to 3 precarious, fun, and sweet girls, the oldest of which has his first crush on a boy much to Gru’s annoyance.

He luckily has the help of his army of minions to help around the house and at work.  Although, they are often not very helpful!

Meanwhile, called back to work by the Anti-Villain League Gru is partnered with Lucy (Kristen Wig) to help save the world from an unknown villain who has stolen a dangerous biochemical that turns animals in to purple killing machines.

Excited to return to work and the world of fun super-gadgets, Gru struggles to balance work, raising his daughters, and his biggest fear – dating!

This movie is a lot of fun, but I have to say the Minions steal the show.

There isn’t one scene that they are in where you and your family won’t be laughing and enjoying their antics.  Parents should be aware there is some very silly language (nut-job, butt), a lot of fart humor, and some mild violence with taser guns and such.  If your child is easily scared, there is one scene in particular with the purple minions that they might be upset, but over all the movie is extremely family friendly and my 4 year old laughed and sat through the whole movie with no problem.

Both my son and I loved this movie.  We laughed a lot, and were once again cheering for Gru in the end!  If you are looking for a family friendly movie with lots of laughs, be sure to head to the sweet and super silly Despicable Me 2!

I attended and early screening of the movie in exchange for my honest review.

This was my 3yo’s first movie! and we did it in 3D! She is a difficult child (meaning I can’t get her to sit in one spot for more than 10 minutes for the life of me) With some popcorn she sat and watched the ENTIRE movie! I loved it!
