Creepy Crafts for the Non-Crafty ~ By Me!!

Okay, so you know how I admitted a little while back that I wished I was crafty? You can catch up here if you missed that one…

Well, I decided that night that I was going to fake it until I make it… Literally! Starting with Decorations!

First Up, Hand Print Bats, & Ghost Foot Prints:

I got my inspiration for the hand and footprint crafts from being a daycare teacher. We did a TON of hand print/footprint art. (Working with infants you are limited….) I have to say I honestly loved doing these, but with Squish being only 16 months old, his involvement was limited. I think these will be SO much more fun when he can help me. (Not to mention they will probably come out a lot cuter!!)

Supplies needed:
Non-toxic white paint (or stamp pad, but I can’t seem to find a non-toxic white stamp pad)
Non-toxic black paint or stamp pad
Black construction paper
Orange construction paper
Black Felt (for bat body)
Googly eyes
Scissors
Glue Gun
Halloween Ribbon
Black Nylon Netting (or black tule)
For words on the card I used my computer (you can also hand write them.)
Halloween Stickers

For the Ghost feet, paint the bottom of your child’s foot with white paint, and place on black construction paper. I like to do several at once, to minimize clean up. Let it dry. Once dry, turn the foot upside down, and glue eyes on top. (heel area) You can use a permanent marker to make the mouth.

For Bat hand prints, place your child’s hand in ink pad, and stamp on orange construction paper. Again I stamp several at once to minimize clean up. Cut out the hands, and place aside. Take felt and cut out an oval for the bats body and a circle for the head. Cut small triangles for the ears. Glue eyes on the circle. Glue the hand prints on the sides of the oval.

I used the bats and ghosts to make a Halloween Banner (of sorts…). I took a long piece of netting and hot glued the bats and ghosts to it. I tied the end with Halloween ribbon, and I now have decorations made by my son!! How fun.

We will also be making these for other family members. Handmade cards are way fun!

Second, Halloween Tule Wreath:

For this project I also used a ghost foot print for. I got the idea of a Halloween Wreath with Tule from Megan at A Ruffle in Time. This is her wreath. Much cuter than mine – but remember – I am NOT crafty!

Supplies needed for wreath:
Wreath form
Tule
Halloween Ribbon
Scissors
Glue Gun
Letters
Nylon Netting
Ghost Foot print from previous craft
Letters
Spider

Last, DIY Topiaries:

This last idea I got from Decor Chick! I love this blog. She has some seriously fun crafts. One day maybe I will be 1/2 as crafty as her.
This was her post. I am going to leave the tutorial to her, because well, some things are better left to the professionals.

I am pretty impressed by the way these turned out. (I know I have to straighten them both, but that should be an easy fix…) They were very easy to do, and much cheaper to make then buy! I plan on buying some other foam balls and maybe changing these with the season. Hydrangeas would look fabulous in here.



So perhaps it may be possible, for a non-crafty person to get their craft on – given the right tutorials, and a little bit of patience.
