Toddler Talk Thursday {Packing For Day Trips}

May 11, 2011 By Emily 5 Comments

Welcome to Week 38 of Toddler Talk Thursday! Where Family and Life in Las Vegas, Crazy about my Baybah, and My Life as a Sippy Cup Mom talk all things TODDLER!!

** If you want to follow this on twitter – or plan on tweeting your post – please use hashtag: #letstalktoddler **

Toddler Talk Thursday was created as a place for moms and dads of toddlers to come together over a weekly topic and share ideas, go-to toys, or products. It is a great way to meet other bloggers of toddlers. Each week the topic will be different; we invite you to link up, share your weekly Toddler Talk!!

Each week the hosts will travel around to each blog to see what topic your suggest for the following week. If we choose your topic – you will be our featured blog.

Keep the GREAT suggestions coming. We have an on-going list we will choose from each week. Some topics are ones we have done in the past – but that doesn’t mean we won’t revisit them!!

In order to qualify for this you need to blog about this week’s topic, and follow the hosts.

And the end of your post – suggest a topic for next week.

Comments letting us know you are participating are always great too. If we choose your blog, we will link back to your post the following week.

This week’s Feature Host is
The Adventures of Mommy Haha
This Week’s Topic: What do you pack for a day out with your toddler?
When we get ready to spend a good chunk of our day out and about – a “Day Bag” is definitely  in order.
So what goes into this extra bag?  A lot depends on where we are going, but here is a generic example:
  • Sippy cup of milk
  • Sippy cup of water
  • Water for Mama
  • Extra water bottle just in case
  • Plum Organics Pouch (If I am really prepared I freeze these in advance – that way they act like an ice pack, but thaw by the time we need them.  And if they aren’t fully thawed – they are a nice treat on a hot day and they aren’t just for Kids!!)
  • Other snacks (goldfish, granola bars, fruit strips)
  • Extra Diapers
  • 2 wetbags (We use cloth diapers, and also they are great if we end up at a splash pad or get wet!)
(I rarely leave home if ever without my Itzy Ritzy Wet Happened Bags)
  • Toys (Small toys – Cars, Trains, Books, etc.)
  • Sunscreen (I like ThinkBaby) **
  • Wipes
  • Anti-bacterial Wipes
  • Bathing suit (if need be…)

"Plum Organics" "Wet Happened" "ThinkBaby Sunscreen"

* (I am not receiving any form of compensation for my recommendations – I just really stand behind these products)
** I choose sunscreen because it is one of the least toxic sunscreen’s on the market.  In fact last year, Squishy got a hold of a tube while I wasn’t looking and squirted a fair bit in his mouth and ate it.  I panicked and called poison control.  After calming me down, he commended me for my choice in sunscreen, as it was probably the least toxic one he had seen.  He assured me Squishy would have no ill effects from swallowing some.

Love the idea about freezing the food pouches! I think I might have to do that with our yogurt!

That is what Squish is serving at his bday party – Yo-Kids Yogurt that we are going to freeze so it will be like a Popsicle!! 🙂

That is our choice of sunscreen too! I’ve had similar experiences, SAP got into my toothpaste! I freaked out and called poison control, but since I use Miessence toothpaste, which is non-toxic, unlike all the brands in the department stores, we had no ill effects! To this day she keeps trying to eat it since it tastes like lemons! lol So it’s on my top shelf now. I wish more people know how toxic sunscreen is! They think they are protecting themselves from cancer when in reality they’re not protecting much and the sunscreen can cause cancer! ThinkBaby is the best!

Wonderful idea on freezing the Plum Organics, I never thought of that, I’m going to throw some in the freezer when i get home, she’ll love it!

Definitely a change of clothes (sometimes 2), snacks, water, small toys, and some music to keep my little ones preoccupied. Sunscreen is a great item to bring along too.

Found you on a blog hop. Please visit me at http://www.dontmesswithmama.com. Thanks!

Once you have kids, there’s definitely no more just grabing your wallet and leaping in the car to go out for the day!

I always forget something – I should probably print out your list and keep it handy!
