Did you know June is National Dairy Month?
Safeway stores are celebrating! This month I headed out to my local Safeway affiliate store as part of the Collective Bias. You can check out my Intersect post about this shop as well!
Dairy is an important part of our family diet. Not only do we LOVE cheese, but we also adore yogurt. Especially Chobani Greek Yogurt. I enjoy the fat-free version daily, while my son gets to eat the 2% for a healthy source of fat and protein.
Did you know Greek Yogurt has more protein than traditional yogurt. It is also more creamy and flavorful so I feel like I get more satisfaction from it.
While shopping at Von’s (Safeway) I picked up some Chobani plain yogurt, blueberries, and graham crackers. We spend a lot of summer evenings enjoying our backyard, so I thought I would make a tasty dessert that my whole family could enjoy.
I found the dairy section easily and there was a pretty good variety. I was originally planning on using the Chobani Champions (the first Greek Yogurt made just for kids) but they didn’t have any. I was happy to see they carried Chobani, but would have liked to see more flavors and varieties.
The store was very clean, and well laid out. I felt the customer service was lacking a bit, both while shopping and during checkout, but I think it was an off day as I have not had that experience before in that store.
This particular Von’s (Safeway) store is my favorite in Las Vegas because they have a wonderful selection of fresh organic produce and organic dairy selection. Way more than any other traditional grocery chain near me.
I love summertime dinners outside. As the sun begins to set and the day begins to cool down, how can you beat dining outdoors? I prepared the dessert the night before as it needs time to freeze.
As soon as Squishy was finished with his meal, I handed him over a Greek Yogurt Sandwich. He loved it. The frozen yogurt and fresh fruit make a wonderful dessert. Add a sweet but not over sugary graham cracker and you have a winning dessert that the whole family can enjoy.
As you can see by the pictures, enjoy it we did! So much so, Squishy needed to save some of the yogurt on his face for later!! But that was okay, because I knew I was giving my son a healthy alternative to sugary ice cream sandwiches, and the dairy would give him the protein he needs to be a crazy toddler!
Disclosure: This project has been compensated as part of the June National Dairy program for Safeway; all opinions are my own.
