Perhaps I should have given up after the grade school yearly miler that we were all made to do. My very first one ended in an asthma attack, as did years 2-6…
But I kept trying to be this thing they call a runner.
In college I found myself more than once in the clinic with an asthma attack after pushing myself too hard.
Did I learn my lesson?? Nope…
Post college I tried again. Only this time, I started slower, and on a treadmill. I had a theory I could control my breathing better if I was on the treadmill.
My theory worked. Pretty soon I was up to running a 10 minute mile.
(Stop giggling, it was a HUGE deal for me!!)
I got it in my head that I needed to add a 5k to my bucket list.
But then I had my appendix taken out. And I was out of the workout game for about a month.
Suddenly I was back at square one…
I have tried several times throughout the years to get back on the running train. But each time I develop a stronger hate for the sport.
And yet, my bucket list and my 5k taunt me something fierce. MEAN mean bucket list.
Today I am taking the 5k off the bucket list.
I am NOT a runner.
In fact I LOATHE running.
And you know what? I am okay with it. Running is not for everyone.
Running OUT!
New bucket list item?
To ride in a 20 mile bike race!!
I got onto a bike for the first time in years today, and LOVED it. LOVED it!!
Hello cycling!
Only one problem… I don’t actually own a bike yet!!
UPDATE: I just rode my first 40 miler race.

I love that you loved biking. Not everyone is a runner. I hope you find a great bike and rwach you goal. A 20 mile bike ride terrifies me !
Thanks Des!! PS I totally have a stroller for you!!!
Except apparently Kim already gave it to you! LOL
I LOVE biking. Got a bike seat earlier this summer for my 2.5 year old and we go riding every Sunday. It’s great exercise and a good bonding time for just me and him without my 3 month old.
That sounds awesome!! I bet he loves the mommy time too! 🙂
What a great goal! Totally cheering for you and know that if I had a bike, I’d give it to yiu
Thanks Tara!! 🙂 You are so sweet!
I’m SOO with you! Through cross country in Jr High to track in high school, and even after college – I’ve tried and tried to be a runner, but absolutely HATE it as well! In college, I’d visit the lap pool for some cardio, and LOVED every minute of it! I’ve given up on trying to be a runner – but I do I wish had a community lap pool nearby! 🙂
You should move to Vegas – we have them everywhere!! Swimming is fun, but like running for me I can’t seem to control my breathing … I wish I could I love being in the water!
He really does! The first time we rode together he was silent during the whole ride. As soon as we got home I took him out of the seat and before I even got to ask him how he liked it he screamed out “FUN!” 😀
Okay – now that is adorable!!
