Stacy Lynn {Etsy Interview, Review, and Discount Code}

September 30, 2011 By Emily 7 Comments

When I went to Blogher 11 is San Diego this year, I also stopped by the Queen Bee Market.  While shopping around at the booths by these amazing talented Etsy designers, I fell in love at first site with a Stacy Lynn design.

Meet my Bus Purse.

"Handmade" "Etsy" "Purse" "Queen Bee Market"

Not only is is super cute, it is big enough for all my crap and the items a parent of a toddler needs to carry around.

I love how durable this bag is, and my son adores my bus purse.  In fact, if I try to carry another around I am told I need the “Bus Purse”.  It is also quite the hit at playgroup, not only with the other moms, but also among the other bus loving toddlers!

The only thing I would see needing any change is the straps.  I am required by my son to carry this bag so often, they are already becoming a little worn.  Other than that, this bag is AWESOMESAUCE!!

I had the opportunity to interview Stacy recently about her shop, her style, and her designs.  Here is what she said.  Also keep an eye open!  Stacy Lynn is one of the fabulous #SpreadTheWarmth sponsors!!  However, if you NEED (and trust me you do) one of her gorgeous designs right now, you can use the discount code, familynlifelv for 20% off!!  Don’t forget the holidays are right around the corner!  The discount is good through the month of October!

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your shop.
Hmmm let’s see…. I will start by saying how lucky I feel to be able to make things for a living.  I love it when people like what I make, that just keeps the little spark going and makes me try harder.  I try to keep my shop full of new goodies.  It is like a whole other job! Sewing, photos and computer work.  Eeek!

How did you get started designing skirts, bags, and jewelry?
Well the skirts started with aprons.  They ended up with tons of ruffles and bows, till I heard one too many people say they wish they could wear them everywhere.  I thought “Ohhhh what a great idea” so I started making them go all the way around and they became skirts!  I tried to make a pattern that could fit all different body types, comfy and easy to wear.
As for the bags… I have made bags for the last 20 years!!  Ohh that makes me old.  Anyhoo, I made them for friends, myself and then like how a lot of other businesses started to try and sell them to the public.  My friend once said “only make things that you would wear” and that has really stuck with me.
All the jewelry started with not wanting to waste any scraps.  For a leather bag I would start cutting up an old jacket, then try to get wallets, cuffs and finally earrings out of the rest.  Plus jewelry is so fun to make and add to any outfit.
What 4 words would best describe you?
That is hard to say about yourself… how about… inspired, inventive, curious and silly?
Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration is all around us!!  I am always inspired by people, some I know and others I have never met.  I get inspired visiting a new town, traveling, eating new food, or reading.  I LOVE new music.  Weather inspires me too.  Waking up to a foggy morning is the best!  When I am looking for some inspiration I love to go shopping!  I love to walk into a cute store, vintage or new and check out all their displays and goodies for sale.  That is fun!
Are you on Pintrest – What do you find yourself obsessing over there?
It is on the long list for sure!  I have only seen what others have shown me so far.  Seem really great!
What are you favorite go-to items in your closet?
When it is cold… my black wrap sweater from C & C California, my brown wool jacket from Orla Kiely, oh and my favorite brown boots from Frye.  And for the rest of the year, I don’t leave the house without my flip flops!
If this bag was a person (Love her!) – describe her personality.
"Handmade" "Etsy" "Purse" "StacyLynn
Thanks!  She is cute and inspired by vintage!  She likes to be worn across the body so her owner can live her hands free lifestyle.  She loves to tag along on bike rides, shopping trips and long walks.  She wants to travel the world!
What is your favorite new must have item for fall?
I am LOVING the new full shorts worn with stockings and boots!  Too cute!  Making a pattern for them is on my to-do list for sure!
If you were a color – what color would you be?
I want to be gold!  But I am probably more of a brown color.  You can kind of go with anything!  I wish “sparkle” was a color!
Don’t forget you can use the discount code, familynlifelv for 20% off!!
Disclosure:  I paid full price for my purse.  All opinions are 100% honest and my own.

What a great opportunity to find out the inner workings of a fab designer! I love all the pieces, especially the last, vintage inspired purse. I’m a strap across the body kinda girl 😉

Love the bus purse. I also think that the leather bracelet is a very trendy item this season. I have seen lots of people wearing different styles of leather bracelets.
