As parents we are passionate about our children’s health. That includes keeping their skin safe. I know when I was little we didn’t know much about sun protection other than it was important to wear sunscreen to prevent a sunburn. There was little to no fear of skin cancer, or long term skin damage.
Now that is all different. Virtually gone are the days of spending the entire day in the sun with little to no skin protection. I know my son has worn a UV protected swim shirt every single time we are spending time in the water or lengthy time outdoors. Wide hats to protect his head, and lots of sunscreen to cover the rest of his body.
ABOUT UV SKINZ 2012 “My First Skin” Program:
One of the most sensitive to the sun our infants. Their skin hasn’t build up a level of protection to help protect them at all. UV Skinz is working to promote awareness with their 2012 action campaign to honor National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Now in it’s 5th consecutive year the “My First Skinz” program and will be donating the baby skin protection clothing to selected maternity wards and pediatricians’ offices. What’s even more exciting is that any online order placed during the month of may will include a FREE baby UV Skinz shirt. If you no longer have an infant in your home you are encouraged to donate the UV Skinz to an organization that can distribute it, or share it with friend or neighbor who has a young infant.
“We’re excited to once again be featuring our ‘My First Skinz’ program, which has had great success in previous years on educating families about the harmful effects of sun exposure in infants. The free baby swim shirt giveaway gets families in the early habit of making sure their children have adequate sun protection – not just through sunscreen, which can be irritating to skin – but through our UV swim shirts and UPF 50+ clothing,” says company founder, Rhonda Sparks. “We’ve built a full community on our website to educate people about the damaging effects of the sun. Our informative Baby Sun Protection webpage describes how parents can protect their children’s fragile skin.”

ABOUT UV SKINZ:
UV Skinz was founded by Rhonda Sparks in 2005, after she lost her 32-year-old husband to melanoma skin cancer. The company offers a full-selection of clothing products with a UPF rating of 50 +, which has been proven to block over 98% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. For young children and babies, in particular, the swimwear offers sun protection without the harmful sunscreen chemicals that canirritate sensitive skin.

my kids are always covered. Its so important during those sun beaming bright days and cloudy days too
People always forget about cloudy days! Thanks Tricia.
As someone who grew up in South Florida, and who has had melanoma I can’t tell you how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. My kids never leave the house w/o sunscreen and sun protection gear.
Great post! Thanks!
Thanks Nicole. I wish I took better care of my skin when I was younger, but I make it a priority for my child(ren). I hope you are melanoma free now!
I definitely need to be more diligent with my children.
It has been very helpful to me to stash sunscreen everywhere I can… Multiple bags, strollers, by the doors…
I’m diligent about sun protection regarding my son. He is so pale. I wish I had been so careful myself. I am now, but I’ve spent years causing a lot of sun damage… when we know better, we do better. :/
I am the same way. I worshiped the sun when I was younger, I hope to prevent the damage with my son!
You’re right, it’s very different from when I was younger. I’ve never been huge on tanning and I’m glad now. I try to make sure my son and husband both put on sunscreen when they’re out. I even stopped my husband when he was mowing to put some on his head!
That is true love! 🙂 I bet his head was very happy!
I’ve very ggod about sunscreen when we go somewhere, but not about everyday..
That is much better than most!! I always buy makeup with it in there so at least my face is protected and that has helped a lot!
I really like how some pediatrician offices and maternity wards will have these to give out. Neat!
I will ask. I think they will just hand them out as they have clients that come in/are born, but I can ask 😉
We slather on the sunscreen. This is great campaign.
Us too! Thank you!
Great campaign!
Thanks HilLesha!
What an excellent campaign! I’m going to make sure to protect my sweet baby’s skin especially since melanoma runs on my mother’s side.
Thanks Courtney. Way to be proactive! Baby’s skin is so soft and delicate I am doing everything I can to keep my son’s skin that way as long as possible.
AA people tend to think they are not prone to uv rays etc but I put it on, make sure it’s in my makeup and facial products and make sure we put it on when outside for long periods.
That is a great point! It is important for everyone to wear protection! I love my SPF makeup as well!
