Green smoothies are all the rage right now in the health world. While they may look intimidating and sometimes downright gross, I can tell you first hand that they are DELICIOUS!
I enjoy at least one green smoothie if not three or four a week! I love the energy I get in the morning from one, and it is so filling! My favorite “green” to add to my smoothies is Kale!
Kale is a super food on it’s own. It is packed with antioxidants, high in Vitamin C, Beta Carotene, Vitamin K, and Calcium. It even has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. By adding it to a smoothie it is just another way to work kale into your diet. Make sure you check this post out if you are looking for more ways to eat kale.
I love the combination of oranges and kale. This Kale Sunrise Smoothie really does make your body feel like it is waking up to a great day!
- 2 Cups Kale(*)
- 1 Cup Coconut Water (guava flavor)
- 1 Large Orange
- ¼ Cup Frozen (or Fresh) Strawberries
- Start by mixing coconut water and kale in blender. Kale should be completely blended.
- Add peeled orange - blend.
- Add strawberries - blend.
- Pour into glass, add ice, and enjoy.
What is your favorite food to start your day?

YUM! I love green smoothies! I haven’t tried it with coconut water, but definitely will!
I am still working my way up to being brave enough to try green smoothies.
They are so good. With less Kale or even spinach often times you can’t even taste it in the smoothie!
I still haven’t tried green smoothies yet! This one looks pretty easy to make!
Maybe start with spinach – it’s milder! 🙂
I’ve never tried a green smoothie I’m not so sure if I will like it LOL
If you have never had one at all I suggest you start with Spinach. It blends into the taste so much more. I like the green taste so I always add extra, but I have had some you can’t tell at all! 😉
I have tried one green smoothie was spinach and actually liked it. Will have to try Kale out. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE green smoothies
I love green smoothies and this one sounds great! Not to mention it makes me think of a Tequila Sunrise, which makes me happy on a different level. 😉
This sounds great. I just did a green smoothie challenge for the month of June and am now hooked. I actually hadn’t thought of adding oranges to the smoothie so thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for the share… I’ve never had Kale, but am intrigued on so many different ways to introduce it to your daily meals.
Love my green smoothies! Love kale but only recently tried it in a smoothie. I can’t tell the difference. Yum!
we loooooove comparable here.
spinach and kale are my smoothie’s bff 🙂
I’m just starting to get into smoothies… but haven’t braved any green ones yet…
Mmmmmmm! LOVE green smoothies!
My daughter has been telling me about these. She has one every morning, but she uses spinach. She swears you can’t taste the “green” either!
I never know what to do with kale. Thanks for the idea!
I’ve never had a green smoothie!
Yum! I hate bananas, so I always get excited when I find banana-less recipes. I’ll definitely try this!
This seems like an awesome smoothie to start the morning with. It’s definitely going in my books as a “to-try!”
Looks yummy!!!

I’ve been reading so much about green smoothies lately…I need to break down and just DO it. This is a great recipe to try!
Looks easy enough to make. I can’t do chunky smoothies. They have to be smooth.
I haven’t had a green smoothie in a while. This looks yummy!
I’ve been looking for a yummy green smoothing recipe to give me an afternoon boost!! Thanks 🙂
Yum, I have a ton of kale growing, I cannot wait to make smoothies! Great recipe.
It sounds very yummy!
This looks fantastic…I need more kale in my life!
nommy!!!
This sounds delish!
I’ve never tried anything like this. From the comments it looks like it really is as good as you say. I may have to try it.
Yum, that looks really yummy and refreshing.
Yum! This looks really good! When we get our stuff out of storage for the new house and my Vitamix is back in my rotation, I will try this. 🙂
I have to admit, green smoothies scare me! But, maybe I’ll have to give this recipe a try. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a healthy drink. I actually have some kale in the fridge I was looking to use.
I’m definitely not a fan of kale but I love that this only has 4 ingredients
I wish I’d seen this recipe before I bought a juicer (which is still in its box) – I have one of these bullet blenders….I had no idea it could make a green smoothie.
thanks!
I loveee Kale in my smoothies, and hubby calls me crazy when I drink them.. 🙂
Great recipe!
I, too, love kale. I’m going to try this recipe!
Love green smoothies, thanks for sharing!
not sure if I can get past the GReen but I bet its full of vitamins
I haven’t tried green smoothies, but it may be time. 🙂
Looks great, I need to get a juicer the kalicious at whole foods is getting expensive!!!
Now I am intrigued by what Kalicious is!! 🙂
I tried this just this morning and it was not at all smooth. It was mostly the orange that made it so chunky, but I actually had to chew at some points. Ay suggestions on how to make it smoother?
Try removing your stalks from the Kale. You could also substitute real OJ for the Orange. I’ve never had to chew mine. Maybe blend the orange first? Sorry!!
Thanks I will try that! I think using oj will help, though I’ll be sorry to lose the fiber from the orange. But the flavor was really good. What kind of blender do you have? Maybe that would make a difference too.
