It’s April and the time of year many families think about Spring Cleaning their home. But have you ever thought about Spring Cleaning your computer and digital media?
I am about to make a very embarrassing confession…
My inbox has at this very moment 11,000 unread emails.
Did you draw in your breath in shock? Because every time I open up my email I get a little sick to my stomach! Between getting added to email lists I never wanted to be on, a million daily deal emails, blog subscriptions, random press pitches, and so much more it has become seriously overwhelming. I am what Soleil Moon Frye would call a digital hoarder. Don’t even get me started on my pictures files…
Soleil calls digital clutter the silent enemy and has pointed out that in a new survey from Microsoft, 1 in 5 Americans identify themselves as digital hoarders. Just like a real mess, digital clutter can add a lot of stress to your life.
Soleil believes that you need the right tools to clear out the clutter. Take email, for instance – 1 in 4 Americans have more than 1,000 emails in their inboxes.
Soleil suggests checking out the new Outlook.com which lets you automatically schedule a cleanup to move or delete newsletters, daily deals, and other commercial mail. I am currently working on this move myself, and hope that one day I won’t be so scared of my inbox. 11,000 unread emails – sheesh!
In addition, Soleil points to apps for keeping organized.
There’s a great app for Windows 8 users called AboutOne Family Organizer.
At $1.49 this is a great way to begin spring cleaning on your computer! The app helps you keep track of everything you need to remember, saving you time by turning your notes and to-do’s, photos, videos, artwork, documents and other details into useful reports and reminders. I am planning on checking this out It would be nice to have everything in one place!
To stay on top of all my pictures I have started to use SkyDrive.
SkyDrive allows me to access and update it from virtually any computer or mobile device. Since I work on multiple computers this is great! And I can stop adding to my email clutter by emailing pictures to myself so I have them on both computers. Now I just need to check out my SkyDrive. Plus, SkyDrive even allows me to share photos albums with my family so they can see instant updates on the Grand-babies!

So, it’s your turn to confess…
Are you a Digital Hoarder too?
I am part of the Windows Champions Program. As a Windows Champion I received loan of a laptop and may receive other equipment from Microsoft to assist me in evaluating Microsoft products and services for my blogging activity. I’m excited to share all I’m learning with you!

I could soooo use this!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
This is great to know about! I try to keep on top of my email, but I’d still love to go back and delete a bunch of old stuff. This would make staying digitally organized much easier.
11,000!!!??? Wow…that’s A LOT 😉 xx
I clean my mailboxes out regularly. If there are over 500 emails I can’t work. I know something is in them that I have missed and its probably important. That makes me crazy. I clean my sisters mail boxes out if I go to their houses and find out they have over 100 emails. I am OCD about this. Really. It’s insane how I can’t handle it!

OMG girl! Get on those emails and unsubscribe to those you don’t want.
I’m a total digital hoarder! I’m an everything hoarder!
I don’t know how a lot of bloggers can get stuck with so many unread messages haha I clean out my inbox multiple times a day. The About One Family Organizer seems pretty cool though.
Wow, 11,000 unread emails ! That’s crazy. I might have that many emails in my account though.
I love SkyDrive but like you have a ton of email that I haven’t even looked at.
My inbox is cleared out every day — but, if it wasn’t, I’d definitely need this the new Outlook!
I never get my inbox anywhere near cleaned out.
Well, yes and no. I though I was until I read your 11K inbox 🙂 I only have about 150 right now and already feel super behind. I really like the option to have some deals/newsletters cleared out automatically.
This sounds very intriguing. That said I don’t know how you can live with that many emails. My email is my “gotta do box” I think I have 6 right now.
I’m actually OCD when it comes to email. I won’t keep an email, unless it’s important.
I save everything. I am a total email hoarder…
I feel ya.
I always have a TON of emails too!
11,000 emails! How do you manage? I get ancy when mine is over 100 when I go to bed. SkyDrive does sound great however and I’ll have to check into it.
I’m a digital photo hoarder. Just can’t bring myself to delete the images. However, my email box stays pretty cleaned out.
These are some great tips! I have slowly been unsubscribing to emails I don’t want anymore.
I need to do some mailbox spring cleaning.
Wow, I don’t know how it’s possible to have that many unread emails! I check email as it comes in on my iPhone and I always unsubscribe to things I’m not interested in.
Ugh, that would make me cry!
I am trying not to be a digital hoarder.
I totally am!
my computer needs to be WIPED clean bad. It’s dragged down by all the pictures I’ve put on it 🙁
I’m a big digital hoarder.
I hoard email too. But I hide it so I don’t know how much there is there. LOL
Love About One
You don’t even want to know how many emails I have
I have way too many emails, sadly it takes like three days for me to go through them all. I get over 200 a day!
dont feel bad I too have 11000 emails disgusting isn’t it my life screams for organization
I wanted to check out that tablet/computer all in one! I keep seeing commercials and it’s intriguing!
I am TOTALLY a digital hoarder!
I am! But I store it on flash drives 😉
