Dear Squish, Please STOP Licking Playground Equipment

February 25, 2011 By Emily 9 Comments

Dear my sweet Squishy,
Well, another week is drawing to a close here in Las Vegas.  You spent the beginning of your week enjoying limited time with your Farmor Ingrid.  You adore having extra people here to pay attention to you.  Hambone to the fullest!

However, we all knew something wasn’t quite right when on Monday you were uber crab, and Tuesday your nose started to run.  I attributed it to two-year molars (which I believe are still part of the problem) By Tuesday night you were a stuffy, snotty, breathing mess.  By Wednesday night your fever had shot up to 103.  So on Thursday we headed out to the Doctor’s office.

We left with a prescription for steroids to help open up your lungs, we were to start breathing treatments (again), some antibiotics to clear that nasty mess in your nose, and one step closer to an official asthma diagnosis. Not to mention your first lollipop.  (which you loved, and freaked out when it was dropped on the ground and thrown away…)

My dear baby, I am sorry you appear to have gotten my asthma.  I know how scary it can be when you struggle to pull in air.  I promise to always have your inhaler with us wherever we go.  I promise to always be there for you when you are sick and to have extra hugs to make you feel better.

But sweet little man of mine.  Could you promise me something?  Could you please stop licking the playground equipment and eating everything you get your little hands on?  I have a feeling you might not be sick as often if you learn that there are just some things that don’t go in your mouth.  (Life Lesson #208)

WHO-ME? I'm not doing anything....

Oh, and PS, you get better faster if you don’t run around like a crazy boy when you are sick!  I swear no one would ever know you were sick if they just saw you through pictures.

I remember my chant when the triplets were about 12 months old at the park, “don’t eat the bark, don’t eat the bark”. Moms would look at me like i was nuts for letting the babies crawl and around and “not eat the bark” … they have to learn somehow!!

    Hope he gets better soon!!

Aww, poor Squish! Feel better, dude!

&Sorry to hear about his high probability of asthma- Shane shows no signs of it yet but I didn’t get it until I was like 12 & now I have it BAD so I’m not quite in the clear with him yet.

    Poor little guy.

I don’t understand why babies/toddlers don’t realize that it’s disgusting to lick almost anything. I tried telling my kids that and it took YEARS for them to get it.

SLOW LEARNERS, my kids. 🙂 Kidding.

Hope his asthma doesn’t flare up often.

Those pictures are too adorable and you’re right, just from those it’s hard to imagine he’s sick! Too bad he has to deal with asthma, Jake is 14 and has asthma as well. Luckily, the nebulizer, meds, and inhaler have been enough for awhile. I hated having him on those steroids. My husband has severe asthma as well. I used to, used an inhaler until I was about 12 and then just quit.

Thank you! I am happy that there are so many more options for home treatment. When I was young it was always a trip to the ER… The steroids are the worst.

Ok, I’m so sorry for his asthma, but I can’t get over how cute it is that you call him SQUISH! That’s the best nickname EVER! 🙂
