Is it possible that at only two years of age, my son is already smarter than me?
“Put it away mama.”
My two year old son looked up at me with his blue eyes sparkling and flat out told me to put away the laundry that I was folding.
Crap, I thought to myself he is right.
I need to put it away, something I tend to slack on on a pretty regular basis…
Wait a minute, does this mean that he is actually listening to me when I tell him to put away his toys?
Not only listening, but understanding and applying it to other facets of life??
Crap!
Crap!
Crap!
How did he get so smart?
And if he is this smart now, what in the heck am I going to do when he is older?
Okay Emily, breathe deep.
Smile at your son, and turn this into something good.
“You’re right baby, we should put the laundry away now. Do you want to help mama?”
YES! That’s it, before long he can be putting away the laundry so I don’t have to, is he buying it?
SWEET!
He is totally soaking all of this up!
Getting him to put away his toys is going to be so much easier now that he understands.
After the laundry was put away, we headed to his playroom for some free play.
We drove cars. and read books.
We drove trucks, and flew airplanes.
Don’t forget the helicopters!!
Pretty soon the time had come for my smarty-pants nap.
I shouted out “5 minutes til clean-up”, thinking my little man was going to be excited to put it away.
“2 minutes til clean-up.”
Okay, Squishy, let’s clean up. It’s time to put away your toys.
Suddenly my son appeared to have selective hearing.
“Squishy, let’s put away your toys please.”
“Vroom Vroom Mama!”
“Yes, baby that is a cool car, can we put it in the box please?”
“Hugs! Hugs!”
Crap!
He is smart!
He knows my melting points!
I gave him a tight hug, and then asked him again to “put away” his toys…
“Kisses Mama, Kisses!”
His blue eyes sparkled and twinkled with pride.
My little stinker knew exactly what he was doing.
After a few more rounds I did manage to get him to pick up his toys, and shortly there after take a nice long nap.
That evening, after dinner, I asked my son if he was all done.
He looked up at me, smiled and said,
“Put it away mama.”

So cute!! Be thankful he didn’t ask you to put that big, gooey chocolate bar away… we absolutely don’t need accountability like that gol (giggle out loud)!!
It looks like you’re raising your little guy well 🙂

LOL – he doesn’t ask me to put it away, but if he sees anything mommy eats – he has to have it. It is a great diet actually! 🙂

Haha! I was going to say that we should have a playdate since we’re both in Vegas, but then I thought our boys would just exponentially grow each other’s intelligence and they’d be manipulating us right and left! My 3 y/o son always tells me, “Mommy, you look like a princess today” when he gets in trouble. Little stinker.
