This past Friday night, after having been re-cooperating all week long from a cold turned sinus infection, Squishy was thankfully well enough to attend Signing Time LIVE with Rachel Coleman. We were pretty excited to see that Leah and Lucy were also there for this show! My how they have grown up into beautiful young ladies.
Who is Rachel Coleman?
If you are a parent and you are asking this, you must be one of the unlucky families who don’t have access to Signing Time.
If you aren’t a parent – refer back to this post when/if you ever become one. Otherwise it pretty much isn’t relevant to you!
Rachel Coleman is the host and co-creator of Signing Time. (She stars alongside her daughter Leah, her nephew Alex, and a frog named Hopkins.)
My son LOVES Signing Time. The first time he watched a baby Signing Time video he learned several new signs just like that.
I have written about why I love Signing Time before.
I have shared the benefits that signing with your children can give them, and about my personal experience signing with Squishy.
So when the opportunity came to see Rachel Coleman live and in person, I immediately bought tickets.
Seriously! I am not even exaggerating in the least bit.
Within 4 minutes of me seeing she was coming to Las Vegas, I had bought VIP tickets for my son and myself to go enjoy her live show.
I knew he would love to see her live. But what I didn’t realize was I was about to have an AH HA! MOMMY MOMENT.
The moment she opened her mouth and started and said “HI I’M RACHEL!” and began singing the beginning theme to Signing Time, the entire (YES, THE ENTIRE) room of crying, talking, squealing, screaming, and squirming children hushed and stared bright eyed at the stage.
The moment she stopped to talk about what Signing Time was, and how she has been doing it for 10 years, the noise of crazy children (mine completely included if not leading the crying…) began to raise the noise levels again.
It was then I realized Rachel Coleman is the reason everyday at 12:00pm I have quite time for exactly 30 minutes. I swear, this lady opens her mouth and babies and toddlers everywhere immediately close theirs!
Singing/Signing – QUIET
Talking – NOT QUIET
Watching a new clip of the yet to be released Signing Time POTTY TIME video – QUIET
Talking – NOT QUIET
We are lucky enough to be one of two PBS stations in the country that plays Signing Time everyday M-F. (THANK YOU LAS VEGAS PBS!) But if you aren’t one of the lucky ones check out your local library. Pick up a copy of Signing Time, and put your feet up and enjoy knowing your child is learning signs, learning vocabulary, learning manners, learning music, and so much more while you are learning to enjoy the much craved Quiet Time!
The VIP part of our ticket allowed us to come early, meet Rachel and Leah, take pictures, and she sang this special song to just the handful of us who bought these tickets. If Rachel and Signing Time ever come to your town, I highly suggest doing this. It will allow you to avoid the long lines to meet her after the show and make it home for your child’s bedtime! My little guy was pretty much exhausted by the end of the show from all the excitement.
Check out how excited my Squishy was!
Disclosure: I paid full price for my VIP tickets. I have not been compensated in any way to write this post. I am only writing it to share a nugget of advice with fellow mommies and friends. Signing Time Rocks!
(*)Please note, I would not have taken my son out if I didn’t feel like the was healthy enough to attend as well as being past his contagious period.

I had no idea that they had a “live” version!
I had never heard of this show until now but it sounds like a great show. It looks like your son had a good time too! 🙂
how wonderful. I love the program and think its great for kids to learn this. we had programs when i was in school and we learned all kinds of signs

I am not familiar with this live show or the tv show. I’ll have to look for it, my son has speech delays and does use some signs. I know sign language works and wish they would teach some basics in schools.
I would imagine you could find some of the DVDs at your local library – and ebay always has some on sale! Thanks for stopping by!!
We don’t have this in our area that I know of but this is definitely cool! We have done some basic signing with both of our girls and seeing those little faces when they know they are communicating with you is an awesome feeling as a parent! I will have to keep my eyes open for this in our area!
That is cool and different! Your son looks so HAPPY! Love that!
I have never seen this. I wish it aired on Houston PBS. With two speech impaired kids this would help a lot! Looks great.
