As a parent, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate Chuck E. Cheese’s Kid Check Program! I know that my kids aren’t going to be able to leave on their own or with a stranger. I like that can see them at all points in Chuck E. Cheese’s from the centrally located tables.

One of my most favorite things about summertime is shaved ice. It’s so refreshing, but it’s usually got artificial colors and flavors so we don’t get it too often.  Enter Lather and Shave Las Vegas … Located at the Aliante Dinosaur Park (2627 Nature Park Dr.) they are a shaved ice and soda food truck made with all-natural, no dye, concentrates or food coloring.

The boys were eager to test out whether or not this flavored goodness could taste as yummy as it’s counterpart, so after a good hour or more of running around the park we headed back over to the truck. Since it was our first time trying them, I let everyone order their own.

D picked strawberry topped with fresh strawberries, K had blueberry topped with a lime, and I went for the pineapple also topped with fresh strawberries.

They were trying to sell me on the lather part – being that it’s fresh handmade whip cream, but I think we will save that for next time. Honestly with as many choices as they had – I am sure we will be visiting them again all summer long.

Lather and Shave las vegas was delicious, and the perfect way to end our perfect fun free Friday!

National Parks might not be the first thing people think of when they think about Las Vegas, but Las Vegas is actually a great place to live when it comes to being able to visit National Parks. In fact there are 4 within driving distance of my back yard.

The closest National Park would be the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It’s located just about 30 miles outside of the city and is just breath taking. You can hike, bike, run, and explore this area. It’s got 19 marked trails and a lot of various wildlife to see and learn about. Many of these trails are kid friendly as well. Being so close to my home and being kid friendly makes this one of our favorite places to take a day trip to.

Edit to Add: I’ve been asked about the carriers in this picture. I’m wearing the lillebaby COMPLETE SSC (babies 7-45 lbs) and my son is wearing the lillebaby doll carrier – because why wouldn’t you take a giraffe hiking!

My boys love Lost Children’s trail. In fact the last time we went up there it was still chilly so we got to see a frozen waterfall. My Vegas babies thought that was really cool.

We always stop into the visitors center. They have a wonderful kids corner that is for kids younger to middle school and up. They have a great Jr. Explorer activity book that they gave my 5 yo and he pours over it all the time fascinated by what he could possible find or see on a hike.

I know I mentioned 4 parks in my backyard. If you are wondering what those are, we are also within driving distance of Zion National Park, Death Valley National Park, and the Grand Canyon. (Which my husband happened to propose to me at.)

Before your visit to any National Park you can get online with your children and check out National Park Trust Youth Programs where they can watch some fun videos and learn how to be a Junior Ranger!

What do you mean you live in Las Vegas? Like it the hotel/casino? – Yes, I’ve actually been asked that more than once…

Um, no. I do not live in a casino. Nor near one. Okay, that’s relative – I’m about 15 minuted from a few of them, but no where near the strip.

I live in a part of town way north of the Las Vegas strip. While it would be considered a suburb of Las Vegas by anyone outside of Las Vegas, we don’t actually call them suburbs and my mailing address has Las Vegas listed as my town.  It is a newer part of the city. It’s way north of the strip, and it’s quite nice up here.  I’m driving distance to easily 45 parks, a few national parks, 4 targets, 5 major grocery stores, and one of the best cupcake stores in the South West!

How on earth do you raise your kids in Las Vegas? Isn’t it a city of sin? – Yes, I’ve actually been asked that exact question…

Yes, it’s known for it’s more adult entertainment options and on any given day my sons can easily see scandalous billboards or a line of ladies bums in thongs on the top of a taxi advertisement, and my son has certainly had his share of experiences most don’t. However, the city actually has a lot of wonderful family friendly destinations and happenings.

I live close to a place called Floyd Lamb Park where I can drive in, park, and be surrounded by peacocks, trees as big as I’m used to in the midwest, and ponds my children can fish in. It’s also where I did our second baby’s gender reveal for my husband when he was deployed overseas!

The Children’s Discover Museum was just re-built and rivals many nationally ranked children’s museums in the country. I love taking my boys there because on any given day they can lift a car with their own body weight, climb a tower of slides and hands on exhibits, be a banker, veterinarian, or an archeologist, perform on a stage, or even dress up like a king, or ride on a pirate ship.

My boys have witnessed a flash flood on several occasions from the safety of The Springs Preserve where they have learned all about desert life and the creatures that share the desert with us.

Holidays in Las Vegas have no shortage of family friendly events from sleigh rides to train rides, and more light shows that most other towns!

Okay, but it’s it like a million degrees in the summer? You can’t really go outside can you?

Las Vegas summers can be very hot, but you adapt and we have now have two water parks and more splash pads than I can count to keep cool at!

Plus getting out early to hit up the farmer’s market means the kids get to try new local food, and get active before it gets too hot!

Do you really like Las Vegas?

We have been here for nearly 8 years now. We have been home owners for 5 years this September. I’ve had both my boys here in Las Vegas, and made some amazing friendships here as well. Las Vegas in the fall is so gorgeous! I miss my family, and don’t like living so far away from the, but all in all – yes we like Las Vegas – EVEN with kids!

This past weekend my family was invited to Boulder City for a Day Out With Thomas the train! This was our second year attending the event and I must say they have really made it easy for families to enjoy a day of fun!

Located just outside of Las Vegas in Boulder City is the Southern Nevada Railway where Thomas the Train hung out all last weekend and will return this weekend (April 13-14) to take your family for a fun 15 minute train ride! Rides begin at 9 a.m. through 3:45 p.m. each day of the event.

Trust me, you don’t want to miss this final weekend!  In addition to getting to ride on Thomas’s train and meet Sir Topham Hat, your children will be able to spend a day filled with Thomas fun!

From arts and crafts, rides on mini choo-choo trains, bouncy activities, and more your child will be sure to have hours of fun!

Make sure you ride the train first, because each of your children will get a special paper to take and get stamped at different locations.  Once they complete the sheet they can head to the gift tent and exchange their paper for a fun take home prize!

In addition they have a clown show, face-painting, and model trains for the kids to enjoy as well!

This event is perfect for kids ages 0+!  If you do have a baby there is an air-conditioned nursing trailer for moms and a changing station for all parents! Don’t forget your sunscreen though!

If all that activity works up your appetite you can stop in to the food tent and enjoy a meal for the whole family!  From yogurt and fruit, PB-Js and hotdogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, to delicious pulled pork or chicken sandwiches there is something for everyone!  Plus the prices are very affordable for the food as well which any family can appreciate.

Thomas and his team have thought of everything to make sure you have a day filled with tons of train fun!

• Thomas will be at 601 Yucca Street, Boulder City , NV for the final weekend of the event April 13-14.

It was unexpectedly cold, so we pulled out of jackets and I wrapped up Baby D in my Je Porte Mon Bebe hybrid wrap, and we spent 4 hours checking out the Monster Trucks!

At one point I got pretty concerned that my boy and his bestie had turned into Zombies!

Turns out they were fine, and we ended our day with at the camp of THE GRAVEDIGGER!

I wasn’t able to go to the actually World Finals with my boys, but someone had to stay with Baby D.  My husband and son had a great time watching Grave Digger – The Legend win the racing, and Maxiumum Destruction win the Freestyle.  Next year we will for sure be taking Baby D.  I have to say, I wish my son was older to understand social media a bit, because after I shared a few pictures on my Instagram account, Todd LeDuc  (Driver of Monster Trucks) liked all of them.  I know if my son was older that would have impressed him!

If you ever have the chance to check out a Monster Jam event – I highly recommend it!  Make sure you have ear plugs and get ready for a great evening!  We already can’t wait until next year!

Great Ready Las Vegas!  Thomas the Train is coming back to the Nevada State Railroad Museum again.  My family and I went to this event last year and had a blast!  I loved seeing the joy on my son’s face when he got to ride with Thomas!  In addition to riding the train, posing with Thomas, and meeting Sir Topham Hatt, my son loved all the extra activities they had planned for the kids!

If you were to ask me what I would grab in case of emergency from my home, after my family my first response would be my family photographs.  To me there is just something so special and amazing about being able to capture a moment, a personality, a memory on film.  With my husband frequently being deployed for his job, I know how precious the moments we have together as a complete family are, and I take every and any opportunity I can to capture our moments in time on film.

I believe in documenting as much our life and my children’s lives as I can.  Starting with a yearly family photo shoot, my child’s first year, and a child photo session each year they grow, as well as any special family moments, I couldn’t love my wall of pictures any more than I do.

Recently the photographer my family had been using in Las Vegas moved away with her family, and I had just begun the search for a new family photographer when Nathan from TNG Photography reached out to me on my blog.  After spending a good few hours lurking on his site and Facebook page, I knew we could form a great partnership.

When looking for a family photographer I need to see passion in their work.  I need to LOVE my photographs, and I want someone who will love them with me and see what it is I am looking for in a picture.  It isn’t just about the faces in the picture, but the moments and personalities at that particular time.
