How to Eat a Pomegranate ~ Tales from the scale.

Not this way!
Seriously, I was told how great eating a Pomegranate was, and how I would love it, because it was a great way to satisfy my snack tooth….
Well 20 minutes after my first cut, this is what I was left with.  Oh, and the seeds??  They have seeds in them!  So you really only get to eat it for a small amount of yummy juice!
Yummy – You Bet!
Nasty Mess – Yes!
Worth the trouble – Not so much!
Any Pomegranate eaters have sage advice to share?  Is there something I am missing here??
For the 3rd Edition of Tales from the Scale – I bring you this weeks weigh in!
I am down 1.2 lbs this week.  I am really excited about this because it hasn’t exactly been the easiest week to stick to the program.
With the Hubs back from deployment, we have been doing a lot of eating in this home.  He has been gone for 6 months and wants the yummy foods he was missing out on.  I didn’t do a great job of resisting joining in.
I did however feel like I had better portion control this week after a few weeks on the program.  I am also feeling better about filling up on veggies and fruits at mealtime/snack time.
My goal this week is to work on my water intake.  
Oh, and maybe to not cheat and eat what my Hubs is eating would be a good thing too!  🙂
Week 1: -3.0 lbs
Week2: +0.6lbs
Week3: -1.2lbs
Total Lost :  3.6 lbs
I am not happy with that total, but I know why I am having this result.  So I intend to really buckle back down this week and work the program!
I am really loving the Select Frozen Foods.  I mean who gets to eat Ice Cream and French Toast on a diet??

    Cut your pomegranate in half, and let both sides soak in a large bowl for an hour or two, face down. Usually all it takes after that is to break the half in half, and tons of little pips will come pouring out.

    It took a while for me to figure it out, but now I can get my pom de-pipped in about 5 minutes. I usually eat them like sunflower seeds…snacking on them makes me feel less hungry, too! Good luck 😉

    So, did you know that I have an extreme phobia of food with seeds? Yeah, you just posted my arch nemesis of foods. I do not believe there is any possible way that you can make them worth eating, so just give up. In fact, I believe they might be poisonous.

    This is good to know! I had wanted to try it before, but now I know not to waste my money (& time, it sounds like!)

    I tried to do the Nutrisystem Blogger program and they said I didn't have enough traffic. 🙁

    @ Brittainy Are you supposed to soak it in water? Cool? Warm? Thanks for the tip – I have one more (I bought two) so I will try that!

    @Danielle – that would be a lot of foods you have to avoid… seeds?? Really?? I will keep that in mind.

    @Becca, if I find an easier way I will let you know. Try again next quarter, you never know! 🙂

    @ KC and Lolo Thanks!! , but I don't know if I could eat the seeds… they are pretty hard.

    Alton Brown (Good Eats) did a show on pomegranates! It's how my hubs and I learned how to do it.

    Fill a bowl with water, cut the pom in half, and put it in the water. From there you should be able to break the seeds from the pith in the water – GENTLY. Minimal mess! The seeds will float (or sink – I can't recall. Hubs did it last time.), while the pith does the opposite, making it easy to separate them. Pull out the seeds and drain on a towel!

    My husband and I eat them sometimes – hard seeds and all. We just cut a couple wedges out of the peel and pull them off (so it's about half peeled) and pick out the juicy seeds as we go. It's less messy because you're not cutting the juicy parts open.

    Now I feel spoiled because my Father-in-law is the master at peeling those suckers and he just gives me the basket of seeds, ready to eat!
