This month I am joining in with many other SITSGirls and participating in 31 Days to Building a Better Blog. I started this a bit ago on my own, but found that doing it yourself is pretty hard. I am hoping a community of support will help me to better keep on track, and also provide me valuable insight into building my better blog.
Day One: Write an Elevator Pitch
What is an Elevator Pitch?
“An elevator pitch is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride (for example, thirty seconds or 100–150 words).” —Wikipedia

Las Vegas and Family don’t exactly seem like a winning combination, right? Take a step into Our Vegas and follow along as this stay at home, slightly crunchy mama, finds the family behind the neon lights.I had no issues with writing my short pitch/tag-line. I have had that set in for quite sometime. I a bit unsure with which long pitch will be more effective for me in the long-run.
When I first did this a couple of months ago, I would have stopped at the first one. But now I am leaning towards the second one. I think it is broader, and allows me to be open to more possibility. I suppose the first part is more of an elaboration and going deeper into my pitch.
What do you think?
UPDATE: So I tried to combine the two – and this is what I came up with!
Family and Life in Las Vegas fights the Vegas stereotypes one sleep-deprived, family-centered, post at a time. Take a step into Our Vegas and follow along as this stay at home, slightly crunchy mama, finds family behind the neon lights and all the wins and losses along our way! This is Las Vegas; Our Way

I should totally join in on the challenge! Fun!
I think I like the second pitch too!
You totally should!! Join!
I like the second one! The juxtaposition of the unexpected Las Vegas and family combination is cool–but maybe frame it positively, like “Las Vegas and Family: A Winning Combination”–I also like the behind the neon lights image.
Thanks Margaret! I replied to yours on the forum site!! 🙂
Great elevator pitches! I am excited about this challenge and can’t wait to see how it changes my blog. BTW, where did you get the SITS problogger widget?
Have a great day!
Thanks Amy – I got it on the new forum (The one at the SITS site and not the Blogfrog…) if you can’t find it let me know and I will send you the code via email!
Great tagline! It’s what made me click through from the SITS forum to check out your site! Good luck with 31DBB! 🙂
I love the second one, (crunchy moma? LOL) but would want “sleep deprived ramblings” in there somewhere, although I’m not exactly sure why! haha probably because it gives the feeling that you’re so busy doing family stuff that you deprive yourself of sleep to find all the family stuff in Vegas?
Thinking out loud 😉
don’t know why comment luv didn’t include my link, but I think you might be able to relate to the issues I had going through this excersize if you want to check it out 😉

Haha I think out loud all the time!! In fact, I always have to re-read my post because I tend to type my exact thoughts at times… I will check out your post for sure!
Agree. I like the second one too. I think it won’t keep you tied down to certain topics and will be more applicable for longer as your little one grows up.
This sounds like such a great challenge. Wish I had the time to take this on!
Thank you Abbie – maybe next time?
I love the 2nd pitch. It is really catchy. I started 31DBBB last fall and made it half way through. I got stuck because I was just starting out and didn’t have a lot of feedback from readers yet. It really is a great program though! I wish you the best of luck. You have inspired me to take a second peak at 31DBBB and you have introduced me to SiTSGirls! Thank you!
Yay! I hope you join in!! And you have to join the SITSgirls! I have learned so much from them!
They’re both great, truly, but I think you should combine them. I have to say I’m in LOVE with the wins & losses reference, totally ties in the Vegas theme. &The second pitch is broader which is great- but saying you’re finding the family behind the neon lights makes it sound like you haven’t found your family yet.
Like I said, truly both excellent! Just want to help! 🙂
Thanks Susie! I appreciate you imput!! 🙂
“Las Vegas and Family CAN co-exist! Take a step into Our Vegas and follow along as this stay at home, slightly crunchy mama places her bets & hopes to come out a winner!” Something like that maybe? *shrugs* 🙂
Cute Thanks!
I agree with suzie. I think you should combine the two. I definitely like the wins and losses and ‘this is vegas, our way’ line.
Well I guess the Suz(sies) have it! Thank you for your imput I really appreciate it!
Hello from a fellow Las Vegan! Love your blog! Glad to see a nice spin on the “traditional” Sin City stigma.
Hello Hello! I love finding other Vegas bloggers – thank you for your kind comment!
I like your short pitch and your first long one!
Sam
Thank you!
I like the second one better as well. I feel like you got the gist of the first one, but I like the way it is worded better.
Thanks – I agree – but it is nice to hear from others too!
This is such a great challenge! I didn’t see it when I was on the site over the weekend … my mind was completely pre-ocuppied. I like the 2nd pitch because the first part of the sentence is catchier and it’s more focused in a way even though it’s broader.
Thank you! Today is only day one – so you can totally join in!! 🙂
I like the second.
Having been to Vegas many times for the naughty side of things, and to visit my MIL who lives on the seedier, spending her SS check in the smoke filled dive casino’s … interesting to read the OTHER side of things there.
Vegas is surprisingly family friendly. There are more parks than any other major urban area… but there are definitely downsides too. It is very transient, high unemployment, and many stereotypes – that aren’t always stereotypes…
