Motherhood in Moments…

August 21, 2011 By Emily 7 Comments

Any mother will tell you, parenting is all about cherishing the moments.

Moments we collect like marbles in a jar.

Each marble is a memory that you can pull out and roll around in your hand remembering that particular point in your life as a parent.

Memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

This evening I added two marbles to my jar.

Tonight when I put my son to sleep he asked to “wok”.

"Rocking Baby"
Taken Feb '10

So we rocked.

He snuggled up in my neck and let me sing him two songs I used to sing when he was a baby.

(Insert heart melting marble moment here.)

Then I put him in bed and told him to get rest because tomorrow he would be learning to be a big boy.

He said, “Yes, I peepee in the potty. Daddy peepee in potty, Auntie peepee in potty, Ami* peepee in potty. I go peepee in potty! I love you Ami.”

My baby is growing up right in front of my eyes with a smile on his face.

These are the moments that make parenting the most amazing job in the whole world.

*My son has been calling me Ami for a couple weeks now.ย  Originally we thought it was a lazy combination of Auntie and Mommy, or perhaps Mommy and Emily.ย  My hubs thinks it may be a combo of Mama and Mommy.ย  Either way, at least it isn’t Babe.

How sweet!!! My daughter is nearing 7 and she just entered first grade also, so I’ve been feeling sentimental because I feel that she’s growing up too fast! :))

There’s absolutely nothing more precious than those moments when you rock your baby to sleep, watching the absolute trust and peace on his face because he feels so safe in your arms…

“Ami” awww… I think’s he’s trying to say Mommy! My daughter used to call me Memmy for some time before she calls me Mommy ๐Ÿ™‚

That is the sweetest! My son called me “Me-ma” for a while; which I thought was “Mommy” backwards. He’s now calling me “Mommy”…and “Sweetheart” on occasion!

This is the sweetest. I never thought of memories as marbles in a jar but I love it. My little one sometimes calls me Amer …Amer…my Mama he’ll say. A marble in my Mama jar for sure.
