Talk about second baby syndrome here! Life has been so chaotic I haven’t been able to post Baby D’s 6 month update until just now! Baby D turned 6 months old on June 4th, and he is growing like a weed! He is so full of life and personality and already trying to get into just about everything he can! I feel like he is a completely different baby since our 5 month baby update!
I’ve decided to change up the way I format his monthly baby updates. I only wish I had started all of them this way!
Growth:
At 6 months old Baby D now weights 20.12 lbs. and is 28.5 inches tall. This puts him at 93% for weight and 97% for height. His head is measuring 17.5 in which is the 69 percentile. To give you a bit of comparison, here is my older son at 6 months in comparison. (He was 18.14lbs and 28 inches.)

Looks:
Baby D looks just like his daddy. We are waiting to see what color his eyes will end up being. Some days they are very blue, other days they seem hazel. Most days they are blue on the outside and green in the middle. However they turn, they are sure beautiful. Just like his brother he smiles with his eyes first. He is uber blonde and is growing a nice fluffy mohawk.
Firsts & Milestones:
Lots of firsts this month. Baby D is now sitting up, and he FINALLY rolled over back to belly (at 27 weeks old – just shy of 6 months.) He is starting to inch/roll his way to find things he is interested in. When I put him in his crib he always rolls to get his face right up against his light up seahorse.
He is reaching for toys now, and easily passes things from hand to hand.
Baby D also got his first tooth this month. I am pretty sure the second tooth is not far behind!
Sleep:
See that look – Yeah, that is Baby D laughing at me. I am not sure I know what sleep is anymore. Baby D slept through the night early on until he was about 4 months old. Then he just stopped. At our last Drs. appointment I shared that I was concerned about some on Baby D’s 6-8 nightly wakings. Most times he wakes up and nurses back to sleep relatively well. However, 1-2 sometimes 3 times at night he wakes up screaming. Inconsolable, pushing me away, refusing to nurse screaming. It is awful. But it is over anywhere between 5-10 minutes. (Sometimes less). Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all. Our Pediatrician suggested it might be night terrors. I am now working hard on trying to establish some sort of schedule for Baby D so he can get enough rest. Unfortunately I can’t tell if it’s working because we are in the middle of teething and getting over a cold.
Food:
We started food this past week. Baby D’s first food was bananas. (We plan on avocados and sweet potatoes next). I am not quite sure he was completely ready. He kept pushing the spoon away from me and wasn’t very keen on opening his mouth for the food. We also tried a little baby led weaning (or baby led feeding as I like to call it), but he promptly choked and threw up. However, his Pediatrician was adamant that he start food to see if that helped his night time issues so we started. I think I will try a few more times and if he doesn’t take to it, I will hold off a few more weeks. We are still exclusively breastfeeding and I am so happy to have made it 6 months.
Language:
He jibbers constantly! Da-das, ma-mas, la-las, ba-bas, and others are heard. I am not sure though that he is saying mama in context yet.
We are also doing baby sign language with D. He can now sign milk. He loves his baby signing time videos!
Favorite Moments:
I love watching as Baby D’s personality blooms. He is so silly. He has the most expressive faces. He loves and adores his brother, and giggles with sheer delight when his brother pays attention to him which is often as his brother adores him too. Baby D is happiest when he can watch other children play.
My favorite moments with Baby D are still the last nursing session prior to going to be at night. All the lights are dim, the house is quiet, and it is just me and Baby D. It’s the only time of day I’m not rushing around to do something else, or feeling like I’m being pulled at both ends. It is my special time with him.
Baby D is a big bundle of happy baby. We are so blessed with this little one. It feels like he has been a part of our family forever!

I know! It scares me, bc even now at 4 K is in the 95% for his height! These kids are going to be taller than me before they go to middle school! 😉

It’s super cute how they are doing almost the exact same pose LOL BTW do you like those teething beads? I thought about those for Matilda but wasn’t sure she would deal and not tug on them all the time.
