When I was pregnant the first time I had visions of having a girl and picking out all the cute dresses, bows, and outfits.  When I found out I was having a boy those visions changed. I’d always heard buying little boy clothes was not fun.  There was a limited selection and such.  I quickly learned dressing a boy can be a ton of fun.  I’m a sucker for bowties, plaid shorts, and little man sweaters.

I’ve found that with a few key pieces each season you can really have a lot of fun with their wardrobe – call them fashion essentials for boys if you will!

When I had my second boy I had a lot of the basics, but I’d also learned how to shop at specialty stores, boutiques, as well as the sticking with companies I love.  Paige Lauren is a company I first learned about when Baby D was born.

Classic Layette Coverall in grey

This was Baby D’s first Paige Lauren romper. I loved how soft it was.  This was the outfit that got me addicted to Paige Lauren. I just love the basic colors and how soft their stuff it.  I recommend their layette line to all my new mom friends.

When I’m looking for clothing for my boys I want something that is not only cute, but can be used in a variety of ways. For example, I can use the Paige Lauren classic jogging pants, classic hoodie jacket, and classic S/S tee together to make a really cute striped outfit.

Do you think he could have done a better model pose if he tried? LOL

OR I can use just the t-shirt and hoodie with some jeans for a more casual look. It’s perfect for park play, washes super easy, and since Baby D put it to the test I can tell you it’s durable too!

We also got the Paige Lauren classic legging, classic cardigan, and a white S/S t-shirt. I adore this together as an outfit, and it’s so soft it’s perfect for tough play which usually leads to a deep sleep.

I seriously can’t get enough of Paige Lauren Baby they easily mixed and match, the softness of the Supima cotton jersey knits is unmatched in my book, they are made in the USA, and they stand out from the items you would find at bigger chain stores. A few pieces compliments our spring/summer wardrobes really well.  Plus I’m a sucker for those elbow patches! SO cute!

Other items I love to have in my toddler’s wardrobe include overalls. Jean overalls are classic and should be something that every parent should buy. Seriously, is there anything cuter than a kid in overalls?  I also love to have cotton overalls for my son’s comfort.

I’ve already discussed my love of the little man-cardigan so when I stumbled across these cardi-bowtie combos from HaddonCo I knew they had to be mine!! They are actually two onsies so I can use them separately if I wanted a different look

If I am looking for clothes that I can also get in his big brother’s size I look to etsy and Carter’s. There I can usually find matching tops, and coordinate matching ties/bowties. I do love my bowties!

Finally I probably own too many of these kind of shirts, but why not put labels on your toddler? I love witty and creative shirts like this.  Nothing wrong with setting your kid up with a little self confidence!

What do you love to buy for your little boy?  Any spring/summer essentials I should check out?

When I was pregnant, I thought I was doomed in the boys’ clothing department. But there are so many cute options! I love Gap and Old Navy jeans for my toddler, and little (snap on) bow ties are the cutest.

Emily, your boys are simply adorable! I have two sons as well, older now 20 and 13, but one thing I noticed is that there weren’t many options when they were growing up. I’m so glad things have changed. Again, your boys are adorable – really loving them in their yellow button downs, so dapper!
