It’s the time of year when many are making resolutions for a better year. That has always failed me in the past. I tend to work better with smaller term goals like monthly goal setting.
I do pick a word each year to focus on. This year I decided to go with Accountability.
ACCOUNTABILITY
I need to be more accountable to myself and the goals I take on. Sometimes this means realizing that it’s going to be a hard month and to be okay with taking on less so that I can be accountable for the things that most important.
Running/Fitness
I have lofty goals this year in terms of running – which is new for me since this time last year running wasn’t really in the picture at all. I hope to run 1000 miles in 2015, but that seems pretty scary to me – so I’m going to break it up monthly too. This month I’m hoping for 75 miles. On top of that I really need to add more yoga and strength training into my routine. I HATE group classes, but everyone seems to rave about Body Pump so I’m going to check it out once a week.
Work/Blog Balance
I am taking on more responsibility and hopefully soon moving into a full time position with my job at FitFluential. While I’m still working as a contracted employee I am hopeful that will change early this year. As these changes come about, I have to be diligent about the other things that are important in my life. This will likely mean blogging won’t happen as much and I’m okay with that. 2014 taught me I can still have a productive, profitable, and healthy blog without blogging everyday or multiple times a day. I’m thinking of using this blog calender to help me stay accountable to myself and the sponsors/brands I choose to work with. I like that I can choose from printable pages, a travel calender, or a full sized big calender. Very cool!
Food/Weight Loss
I’m making the choice to get serious about my weight loss. Very clearly what I have been doing isn’t working. I do better with a structured plan. That way I’m more accountable (see there is that word again) to it and myself. I am starting my 4th round of the Whole30 on January 5th. Check out my past Whole30 rounds and meal plans here! Plus I’m pretty excited because one of my favorite Paleo bloggers/inspirations used on of my recipes in his Whole30 meal plan! Thanks George!
I’m also hosting another Diet Bet that starts on January 5th (yes, I planned my Whole30 so that I could do it with my diet bet!) and I want you to join me! I’m co-hosting with Melissa from Sippy Cup Mom and will be doing daily checkins with everyone on the diet bet site (can also be accessed via the app.) I like knowing that I’m not doing it alone, and that I have a start and end date. Then at the end of the month I can figure out what my next goal for weight loss will be.
Home
My poor house has totally taken a back burner to my busy schedule and this deployment. I’ve decided to focus each month on one room in my home. Sometimes that could mean I get it done quickly – other times that will mean that it’s likely to take the whole month. This month my clothing/closet needs to be addressed asap. It’s bad. My bedroom has basically become my dumping ground which isn’t very relaxing. Plus I really only wear maybe 1/3rd of what I own. Time to get it out and get it to goodwill!
More accountability + smaller monthly goals =less overwhelming and winning!ย Right! I’m excited. In February I will update my January goals and make new goals for that month. This will continue through each year. Feel free to do the same. Share them on your blog (comment with a link to your posts), post a picture on Instagram/Facebook. Use #MyMonthlyGoals so I can find you and cheer you on!

These are all wonderful goals. That bet sounds like a really neat deal too! I have set my goals for the year and my big one is to lose 30 lbs before August. I don’t know if I’ll make it there, but that’s the goal. Any step close to it, is one step closer right? I love that you run. I’m working on jogging but I really prefer walking more.

Good luck with your goals. Hope your 2015 is awesome.

Good luck with your goals. I am also going to try to start running again. It seems 40 just keeps the weight on the hips so much easier. Thanks for the inspiration.

This is a great way to focus on goals for the new year. Resolutions don’t work, because people never have a plan. They just say, “I’m doing X this year.” Never happens.
