What Makes You Value A Review? Dining Reviews from Restaurant.com

October 9, 2012 By Emily 5 Comments

When I started my blog, I quickly realized I loved doing reviews.  It didn’t come as a surprise to me, as I have always been the one who would try out a new product and be sure to share my opinion with my friends.  A blog was a new way to get my opinion out and do something I enjoy at the same time.  In order to keep my reviews honest and fresh I promised myself and my readers that no matter how cool the product, if I couldn’t see myself buying it for my family, or using it if it was gifted to us, I wouldn’t do the review.

When it comes to food recommendations, there are a million different opinions out there.  The food reviews that always resonated the most with me were the ones done by people like me.  I always wondered if the person doing the food review was either working for the company?

Did you know that Restaurant.com now has verified diner reviews?  Now finding a restaurant to dine at for a deal will be easier with the addition of more than one MILLION restaurant.com verified diner reviews.  What’s more is these new reviews have been put into a new search functionality, which allows you to more easily search the Restaurant.com deal database by location or by star rating.  Plus you don’t have to worry that someone is posting good reviews from within the company.  The reviews can only be posted by verified diners!

How is a verified diner selected?

  • Following a validation of a Restaurant.com certificate, the diner that purchased the deal is prompted to award the restaurant a star rating and post their feedback.
  • Only individuals that purchased and redeemed a Restaurant.com certificate at that restaurant are invited to submit reviews.
  • This verification process ensures the reviews are not written by competitors, proprietors, or others with a biased agenda.
  • Restaurant.com reviews are centered on the restaurant experience.

The stars are awarded by diners, not anonymous Web users, making Restaurant.com the place to go for honest feedback on where to eat.  To ensure this, Verified Diner Reviews must meet the following standards:

  • The diner is required to purchase a Restaurant.com certificate and the restaurant must validate the certificate prior to the diner receiving an invitation to review the restaurant.
  • The diner must complete the email review and short survey, including the assignment of a 1-5 star rating.
  • Restaurant.com reviews are centered on the dining experience.  For example, if the review is about the great deal or a bad date rather than the restaurant itself, it may not be posted.  If it is about the food, the ambiance, the service, it is posted for everyone to see.

It is no surprise to me being someone who loves to write reviews, I am always searching out reviews before I spend my money.  Whether it is a product, travel, or place to dine, these reviews help me to make my choices on where I spend my money.  I am thrilled to know that Restaurant.com has added reviews.

When my husband comes home I planned on taking him to a new (to me) Italian restaurant that I recently discovered while driving.  When I checked it out on Restaurant.com I was pleased to see that it was on the site, and had MANY reviews earning 4.5/5 stars!

What I like about the reviews is not only are they done by actual diners, but they are organized by date as well.  So just because a restaurant got a lot of great reviews in 2011, those aren’t shown first.  The most recent reviews are shown first so you know how the restaurant is doing when you want to go visit!

I think this place will be a success for both of us.  The reviews say the food is amazing and the service is good.  Both of which are really important to us when dining out.  I will look forward to sharing my own reviews as I dine!

What do you value in a review?

    I didn’t know restaurant.com had reviews!

When I try out a new restaurant, I usually rely on the opinion of my friends as we tend to like the same things. I will be checking the reviews on restaurant.com now, too.
