Being a mother is one of the most amazing and rewarding jobs in the whole world. Since becoming a mom the amount of love and light I have in my life has grown immeasurably! With that said, being a mother can also be stressful and downright hard at times.
After I had my son, I remember thinking that my priorities were no longer to take care of myself, but to focus on my son first and foremost, and my husband next. If I had any left over time, it would be for me. This resulted in weight gain, anxiety, and other issues. Not only was this not helpful for me, it wasn’t good for my son or my marriage.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms by Kristine Carlson is a books with 100 simple ways to stress less and enjoy your family more! This isn’t just a read once and put it away kind of book. There are lots of chapters that I identified with, and some that I am sure will be helpful in the years to come. I don’t need to have the sex talk (Chapter 71) with my 3 year old, and I certainly am not ready to talk about teenage partying (Chapter 46), but there is still a lot in this book that was applicable to the right here and now in my life.
In Chapter 85 Kristine writes about being a Healthy Mom, Radiant Mom. Clearly something I haven’t always been the best at but starting last year I really saw the value in this. Kristine encourages moms to regularly check in with their health and be honest with how they are feeling about their vitality. This is something I am working on, and making sure I am keeping my body in balance. Especially now that I am expecting our second baby. I know the value in making sure this happens. I don’t want to walk down the road of my last postpartum experience again.
“While your kids may not act as if they see what you are doing, I promise you, they are absorbing your example. Someday you’ll see that they will model much of what you’ve taught them by how you live your life. Choosing a healthy lifestyle takes discipline and personal study. It’s the small acts of self-love that you preform every day, to take care of your body, that allow you to fully enjoy your life.” – Kristine Carlson
Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff for Moms is full of revelations, common sense, and things we as mothers need to hear to remember to stress less and enjoy life more.

I have always felt I was a strong woman. I would like to pass that on to my girl but I really lack self esteem. I would love to take back my life and find the balance between taking care of my family and myself.
